No Bays in Ireland?!

  1. Just completed a two week tour of Ireland (North and South) and didn't see a single Splitty or Bay except for a single new style Bay which obviously doesn't count. I'm sure if I'd driven 1500 mile+ in England Scotland or Wales I'd have come across more than a handful.

The other side of the coin was that I got (or rather the van got) lots of appreciative glances and more than a few waves.

Are there no Irish Splitties or Late Bays or perhaps they were all under wraps cos the heavens openned on many occasions whilst we were there. Mine got a right soaking several times but funnily enough came back to England looking fairly clean. I guess Irish rain and roads are a lot cleaner than in England???

  2. I'm told that the Irish had a scrappage scheme that got rid of a lot of them. Do see a few around, tho'

  3. Sounds like you just had my dream holiday. Can't wait to take the van to Ireland.
    Got any pics?
As for lack of bays, you should have given shielsy a visit! :))

Are you going to do a thread about your trip ? Thinking of heading over there later in the year in the van :)

  6. And there's the weather. You see this lovely British summer we're having? The Irish get this stuff all the time. Any van that's had 35+ years of perpetual rain to deal with will be rotted to the core by now. (Think nice rust-free Californian import; and now think of its evil twin >:D )

  7. Met a bloke while we were over in Dingle who had a whole field of decomposing dubs. Can't say I recall seeing many on the roads compared to the mainland.

  8. If you'd passed through Kildare you'd see my camper 8)
