  1. Hey All

After years of longing, searching and saving we took the plunge Dec 23rd last year and bought a LHD 78 Bay. So far so good, 700 miles under our belt and two weekends away (one rainy and cold at Easter the other hot and sunny in May)

It's everything we hoped for and more and our kids love it as much as we do. Thought we'd sign up here as we're novices and not as mechanically minded as maybe we need to be.......

First VW event is Alive and Dubbin at Jimmys Farm in Ipswich which can't come round soon enough, looking forward to our first proper Dub event.

    Cheers PaulnBecs

PS Totally new to forums as well so bear with us

Hello and Welcome from The Colonial Contingent :hattip:

  11. Welcome to TLB. Don't worry if you're not mechanically minded. I'm very challenged in that area too. I know how to check the oil and that's about it. Oh yeah, could change a wheel if needed and even fitted some new indicators last week. And I once got a broken down bus going by playing with a wire on the starter motor (think it was a starter motor anyway, some sort of small black cylinder thing). The pinnacle of my mechanical achievments!

So long as you've got AA / RAC recovery, you're not going to go far wrong.

  12. Brothers and sisters, welcome to your lifelong addiction ! good to hear from you!

  15. Hi Paul n Becs

Welcome to the site, glad you found us........ Spread the vw word :)

  16. Thanks for the warm welcome and words of encouragement. Seems a cool place to be with lots of friendly peeps.

Lovin the comment about changing the oil and starter motor, seems like my level of tech :)

I have fitted a front parcel shelf, audio head unit and cd changer and nothing has caught fire or burnt out yey so maybe theres hope.....Becs often asks why I'm looking at the engine coz it's obvious I can't even name all the parts!!!! Oh and I've pumped up a slow puncture, does that score any brownie points?

Expect plenty of daft questions over the coming months. Such as, how the hell do I post some pics of our pride n joy on here? Can't seem to figure it out but then I am a drummer and we ain't the sharpest tools in the box :(

We've named the van Maverick (Mav for short) coz he came from a US Air Base in California, got a cool Department of Defense sticker on the front window.

    Enough waffle for now Cya
