New van shopping list

  1. Mind you thats the xl version

  2. my advice would be; don't buy stuff.

just go camping with what you have right now, and anything that is "essential" will be obvious. if you really need something, then most campsites have shops, or buy something local, or borrow it (good to be sociable) from someone at the site then buy your own when you get home. its very easy to get sucked into "must buy this, that etc" before you actually camp, only to find you didn't really need it.

    Good advice there.
The number of people who buy a van, and then instantly spend thousands on extras because others say they're necessary is huge.
Everyone does it but it's really not necessary.
I've got a load of bits that have been used less than a handful of times.

  4. only issue with Khyam's is that the poles are rubbish. buy a spare. they are fibre glass and do split.

  5. I've seen a couple of people putting up an inflatable awning on sites and they don't seem to pitch any quicker than a pole awning really. They do stand up really well in high winds though, if you can cope with the swaying :)

Go with the advice already given about camping stuff- you'll figure out what you need as you go along, then your van will be rammed to the rafters with 'the essentials'.
Spare blankets always come in handy for chilly nights round the campfire.
A storage crate with lid or a huge waterproof stuff sack is great to throw all the wet gear into then your van doesn't get wet!

Bet you can't wait to get camping! Hope to see you at a meet or two :)

  6. Not buying much- need an awning though! Had a look at the Khyam aerotech compared with the Motordome classic & Motordome sleeper- went for the sleeper. Even khyam don't seem to think the Aerotech's that good- certainly not £200 better. Got a decent show price too of £499 including a groundsheet & postage.

  7. we went for a motordome tourer, quite a few on here have them aswell.
don't forget the most important things when going to a tlb meet, bottle opener and corkscrew just in case you brought posh wine with a proper cork:oops: . oh and chili, everyone seams to bring chili..........
