Thought it would be a good idea to fit a new oil strainer whilst doing various gasket replacements trying to combat oil leaks, come to fit new strainer and am wondering how you get the oil suction pipe to push into the centre of the new filter, there doesn't seem to be any resistance to push against and no way of holding the pipe firm once the filter is in place?
    Help appreciated!

  2. Not really sure what you mean, but the strainer just sits loose on the pickup pipe - it's the mounting studs that hold it in, not being pushed onto the pipe.

If the pipe and "umbrella" are wobbling, implies that the pipe's come loose at the crankcase end, or has come unbolted on the single mounting studs that holds it to the case at the drain plate end.

I'd stick with the old strainer, BTW, if there are no holes in it.

Can't quite agree there, the pick up pipe should push firmly into the strainer plate but with mine the umbrella as you rightly say is wobbling on its single mounting so I can't push it home, so I've cleaned and reused the original cos the hole in the middle is wider as its been on before. The new strainer just pushes the umbrella up into the block.
Unbelievably Marmite piece of design I have to say!!

  4. Not a Brazilian part, is it? They tend to casually reduce the dimensions of things. You're much better off with the original :)

I'm told it's poss to tighten the pickup retaining bolt by filing down a spanner and having arms like Twizzle...
