seen in METRO paper , 30 year old vehicles exempt from mot AS LONG AS they have no aftermarket parts fitted !!! this , people is just the start ! do think about that last statement? its just one small shift till they get to peeps like us , (sorry , us!)

They have just introduced MOT exemption to pre 1960's vehicles that starts in November so I would be surprised if they introduce this at the same time. Maybe thay are getting confused.

Govt decides how its going to change legislation to screw us over a bit more, then adds a load of other stuff as cannon fodder for everyone to complain about. Goverment then retracts the cannon fodder and still gets what it wanted in the first place while appearing to have listened to the people.

My MOT renewal didnt require an MOT be produced for years and then it re-appeared. Not come accross this thoughbut then again my MOT and tax are not in synch!

No you can't. If you don't have MOT cover when the tax is due to start, computer says no. IF your MOT runs out the day after the tax begins you can tax it, so you get nearly a year without MOT.

I know this because I tried to apply for tax 2 weeks before it was due at the beginning of this month, but as My MOT was going to run out 2 days before the tax started I couldn't tax it.

its on the grill n chill press ad Anton & Jon are circulating round the mags so its been in Hayburner, Airmonkeys etc etc....

Its in the proper cookbook too

haven't seen the C&B but it was parked round the back of out the way land at kent vw festival so if someone found it and snapped it that was good going

Just seen this posted up on VZi:

Reports in the press that the European Commission has proposed to make modifications to cars illegal, or to ban classic cars unless they are unchanged since manufacture are entirely wrong.

The Commission’s proposals would not, if agreed by the Member States and the European Parliament, make any difference to the current situation regarding MOT testing in the UK except to make most classic cars more than 30 years old exempt from testing if they are not used day-to-day on the roads.

All other cars would remain subject to roadworthiness testing, just as they are now. Whether or not they have been modified is not of itself relevant: what counts is whether they are safe and that is what is assessed by MOT tests in the UK and by the equivalent tests elsewhere.

What the proposals will do is require all Member States to bring their road worthiness tests up to a certain level of rigour, already applied in the UK : for example, motorbikes will need to be tested regularly everywhere, as they are already in the UK. This will make driving safer for UK drivers at home and abroad.

The Commission is writing separately to all the newspapers concerned, none of which checked the facts with us before publication.
