Hey everyone, complete novice here, just stumbled upon the forum while searching advice for how to fix the wiper motor on my 1979 T2 Westfalia Deluxe campmobile, any hello and thanks for accepting my request to join. I'm including a picture of our bus Henry Jones,.... I know,.. We plan to hit the road in September for at least one year but hopefully more around europe so i'm pretty sure we will pop up from time to time seeking advice and avoiding panic. If anyone has any advice on prep, a suggestion on spares we should bring along, the benefits of LPG then please get in touch Cheers Lee and Ollie
Welcome, lovely bus @stewart kombi provided this great advice to me about lpg. I don't think he will mind me posting it? HiyaPaul, LPG has been great for me, I've done it in two engines now, first was a stock 1600 and this one is a 2L with a single pict 30 carb. Both had a torroidal tank, doughnut shape which sit in the spare wheel area (spare wheel in a can, and good tyres mean i haven't carried one for years). Gets about 63L in, this is over 250miles on a run. Gas picks up heat from a probe into the Silencer box. Then goes into a thing (vaporiser?) that makes the right mix then straight into the carb. A switch up front has four settings......petrol only, petrol off (as it burns out the fuel in the carb), gas only, gas off and petrol filling carb up.....then back to the first. Not difficult , but necessary as it can't run on two fuel at once. Slightly less power, slightly less mpg. I hold 60 on the motorway for hours. Basically means fuel costs halved. But a tightwad like me gets 'range anxiety' between auto gas outlets (seen the price of petrol!!), also means no carb icing...making it easy to run all winter too. Emissions are properly low. ITaly is great in the bus, alps going into Lombardy, then back on the coast road into France...you gotta do it! Ask anythinghappy to help Stew www.ecozoom-uk.com Wierd solar cooking devices, work in Britain too. www.slicksolarstove.com Me again: I didn't go down the lpg route as it wasn't going to work out worth it for me on the yearly mileage I do and possible issues with engine overheating (I'm not saying that happens to everyone). A local friend fitted a top of the range system to his 4 x 4. he doesn't use it anymore for a few reasons including the cost of regular servicing and inspection of lpg set up? Im sure @stewart kombi will add more Hope that helps Paul
