New Engine

  1. So finally the time has come and the engine is almost there: 1776 twin webbers

First issue on start up was showing leak on cylinder but after much head scratching and stripping idle jet was found not to have a hole :-0 (see photo) reassemble and back up and went to adjust carb but when the bolt is as much as nipped up it locks the shaft up?? (see photo).

Anyone had this issue with a webber? what size jet you used?

The beast is alive and running but cannot adjust so waiting from supplier tomorrow.
    • 140 Main jet
    • F78 Emulsion tube
    • 160 Air corrector jet
    • 40 Pump exhaust valve
    • 55 Idle jet
    • 50 Pump jet
    • 1.75 Needle valve
    Cheers

    Which bolt? Which shaft?

Your picture shows two bolts holding on a bracket for the linkage, one nut holding the linkage onto the throttle shaft, one idle mixture screw and a couple of nuts fixing the carburettor.

Linkage bolts- the linkage is too long between the carbs. Adjust the length of the bar or bend stuff so its not gripped by the brackets at each end. Or loosen carb fixing nuts and wiggle things around with the linkage fixed tightly to the carbs.

Throttle shaft nut, you would need to reduce the thickness of the stack of things that sit between the flattening of the throttle shaft that the lever engages with and the throttle body. Or disassemble the throttle shaft completely and re seat the throttle plate so it moves easily.

Fixing nuts locking it. Linkage shaft too long as above .. less likely either the base of the carb or the manifold isnt flat or the studs are closer together or further apart than the holes in the carb so it bends as you tighten it down. Use thicker gaskets , slightly enlarge fixing holes (if wrong spacing) ..

Not too sure from pics and I’m not too familiar with hex linkage as I have CSP Bellcrank but found this, if it helps at all, as well as the info in the thread above.

Apologies, can I ask if you bought the spacer from the 4:1 to back box or had it fabricated? as I’m after one for mine

One thing I found is that if you have the 2 linkages too close to vertical if can kind of lock up and bend the longer linkage bolt that is used on one side of the setup.
Slide the 2 linkages in a bit on the hex bar to have an angle of maybe 15 /20 degrees...

I followed way out westies recommendations:

    145 main
    F6 emulsion
    55 idle
    180 air
    150 float (viton tipped)

  5. All came with the webbers.

  6. After speaking to the supplier its a problem with the spindle not sitting right, caused in manufacturer so they sending a replacement straight out, 10/10 for customer service from Euro Carb. Looking good for another go at the weekend.
