New Battery... But What Type??

  1. So - I've been living with a battery that doesn't hold charge for very long and yesterday decided to sort it out. Took it into Halfords who slapped their tester on it and told me it was fine! As this is a battery which won't turn the van over after a week I wasn't convinced - anyway, they couldn't suggest a replacement ... (I should add that it has a strange American battery fitted which doesn't really give any useful details)
My question is therefore - for anyone out there with a Type 4 1800 engine - what sort of battery have you got fitted, and any that seem particularly suited to Late Bay use?

as ever - thanks in advice for the advice that I know will come flooding in!

  2. I've got one of these.

  3. You might want to check if your van's electrics are discharging the battery before buying a new one. Do you have a meter? You need to see if there is any current drain from the battery when everything's switched off.

  4. Update - have checked the battery out using a bulb in-line with the earth lead - nothing shows unless I switch the radio on or select some other device - so am assuming nothing is drawing current - so am guessing a new battery is required!

  5. I agree with the Bosch S5 recommendation above. I have one too.
Do remember to keep your battery fully charged at all times - important with winter storage coming. Once a battery goes completel flat, it's a goner.
