  5. I was looking round a half built Shepherds hut last Thu, very smart piece of kit, the chassis and framework came as a kit and the young guy was doing the rest, he had some strange ideas tho, burnt Cedar cladding and a Copper roof, mind you he did want a Lead roof but we talked him out of that

On our way home from Busfest this year we took a detour to the Prescott hill climb and saw a few horse drawn vans moored up near a round about. There was a sign saying wonky wills wood carving (or something like that) we wished we had stopped later and looked more closely at their vans and asked them were they always on the road and what was it like living in the horse drawn vans.

Next time I will defo stop :)

Ps @poptop2 that was a lovely opening post :)

Part of this dream is based on my upbringing. Some and probably most of the dream is about travel and friendship.

When we moved from that estate we moved to the other side of town. A nice house on a nice street, but in the roughest part of town where most of the people were immigrants of all races. Like all families back then we never had much money. Dad worked hard at his business yet never seemed to splash the cash. So as kids we never had much. We certainly never had xboxes or computers. We had bikes and footballs and imagination. We ganged up together to organise our own fun, football games that went on for hours, treks on our bikes to far away places and team hide and seek games in the woods. All simple fun and seldom did it ever get out of hand. The mix of kids was like the united nations, but it didn't matter, we were just kids. No one cared that Mazzer ate pasta or Connie Griffin had to go to mass on a Sunday or Pete the Poles dad couldn't speak English and drank a lot. We were mates ( we still are ) The fact was we were all in the same boat and needed each other. These days kids don't seem to mix like we did, for some reason it isn't the done thing to allow gangs of kids to play on the street or park. much better safer for them to stay at home and vegetate on the xbox ( out of sight out of mind etc) Yet it isn't really is it?

This computer society we have lapsed into is such a bad thing really. it is too easy for kids and even adults to sit and insulate themselves away from the real world. They don't get out and meet the people they play games with on the internet face to face. They sit alone making all sorts of assumptions about each other on what is written or how good they are at games. They miss the really important bit which is getting out and making friends properly, learning to laugh and ignore remarks, make others smile, think about how they get on with their mates in reality. These things are really important social skills that you don't always learn in school where you are cacooned by rules. And this is what is happening all over the world. People are insulating themselves against reality. It is so easy to make a judgement over something you read on the internet or watch on a youtube video. usually the wrong judgement that is based on the only meeting point you may have with that subject, culture, religion, race, team, or person. The really true way to enjoy life is via personal experience, hands on face to face experience. Travel is one of the the things that we can do to gain these experiences. and this is what I have always yearned for. I did it as a kid with my mates trekking on bikes, I did it as a teenager watching football and playing it.I did it as soon as we got married and got out in our campervan. It really does broaden the mind. My friends that have travelled in the middle east have had nothing but kind words for the hospitality they have received. The friends that have travelled in America and south America say the same. A friend who cycled to china through Europe, Turkey, Asia says it was the best experience of his life and from my own limited experience in near Europe I have found the same. Meeting people face to face, sharing food, tales and hospitality is the true way to grow. Not sitting at home on a computer or watching tv letting other people make your life judgements for you.

We may not have a Gypsy caravan with an horse, but we have campervans with 30+ horses. The worlds your oyster and I for one want to see more of it! Maybe I might learn a bit along the way.

    Just my opinion.

  10. Im thinking of building a full size Shepherds Hut as opposed to the small ones i make, i have the wheels and steering, just need to convince a local pub landlord that he needs one.
Ideally i would make one for the field but i couldnt see it staying safe down there
    Good book on them
