Just doing the valve clearances and when i popped off the rocker cover on 3 & 4. I noticed the rocker arm nuts were this orange colour. Everything seemed in working order and on the other bank (1&2) everything was normal colour as usual. What do u think caused this oranging?

  6. Some kind of fungal infection ?

As above, likely rust to to condensation and lack of engine use.

If they are still metallic looking .. Roasted in hot oil. Look for leaky valve stems and generally too hot.

Or somebody decided to use copper plated exhaust nuts because...

I was thinking this but hoping not. temp gauge always ok. But it’s a sump plug one. Fingers crossed it’s just rust from condensation.

A photo would have settled it but as a T2 owner one would expect you to recognise rust.

Weird. I took photos from my phone when I posted the thread. They didn’t appear on here though.

Hope it's rust not heat. But looks like heat to me. [IMG][IMG]

  12. I`d say surface rust , have you tried removing it ??

  13. I'd go for rust as well. At some point, your engine hasn't run for a while, so no lube, and the nuts have rusted.

If it comes off with a wire brush, it's not heat.

Thank you chaps. So glad your response wasn’t ‘definitely heat’.
