My eldest daughter had a car crash

  1. First of all she's fine thanks it was a very low speed impact a guy in an Audi A4 pulled out of a quiet street, she was only going slow & he didn't see her, she saw him beeped the horn but it was too late. She's 6 mths pregnant just for your information but as I said she is OK, she just got upset afterwards, hormones & all that.

She very foolishly took a business card off the guy & nothing else, she didn't even know the make model or reg of the car all she knew was that it was silver doh!

Anyway it all worked out fine as the guy rang up apologized & admired full responsibility, restoring my faith in human nature. He's obviously a genuine bloke, its a company car & he just wants to get it sorted through the insurance.

The car is an 02 plate Polo 1.4 TDI Sport, she has had it for 2 years & we have no intention in selling it as it is so cheap to run it has a full main dealer service history & she is the second owner, because of this I want it repaired in the main dealer with genuine parts. The only damage is the door.

Now the purpose of this thread is for you all to guess the cost of the repair to the car, we are not claiming any other damages as that would be dishonest & as I said the guy was a genuine bloke so I don't want to take the pee. How much for the main dealer to put the car back as it was?

  2. 600 quid

  3. Typical rate is £500 per panel plus some extra for main dealer. Do they even have a body shop? They will probably just quote for a new door and get it painted by a body shop.

  4. They will charge for a complete new door and respraying so I reckon £1800

  5.

  7. The answer is obvious when you vote as I have selected the correct one.

The garage I'm using is Sinclair garages they are a long established Volkswagen main dealer with a body shop & have a good reputation. :)

  8.
  9. Voted on the run as did not know it was a door. Seeing the full story and knowing it is insurance related my top price would go from £500 to £1000

  10. Glas your daughter ok!!!

Based on my door being dented in Waitrose and some of wheel arch affected ie rust fell out... May I have 2 guesses?

    1. £2500
    2. £0 if insurance company refuse to pay and say it had corrosion!!!

  11. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Round our way a door the right colour would be procured from the scrappy, fitted and polished up along with the rest of that side of the car, then "big Steve" would be apologetic thay he had to charge you £150. :)

So I guess £975 at the main dealer - even they feel slightly guilty pushing a bill for what' essentially nothing to over £1000... At the end of the day they will be governed by what the insurer prices the repair at, it's the insurer that set the price not the main dealer, so you may have to go elsewhere where they charge say £600 unless you're prepared to fork out the extra yourself.

  12. Main dealers don't repair anything, they just replace parts. And for that reason I'd say they'll charge as much as they can get away with.

  13. Glad your daughter is OK Chris x

  15. I'll put you out of your misery, £1K

I did offer to get a second hand door in Science Green & then get a body shop to sort it but the company owner said not to bother just get it in to the body shop & let the insurance sort it.
The good news is there is paint damage from before on the edge of the door & the rear quarter & this will now be sorted.
FFS £1K for a door & paint that is a rip off. :-[

  16. I'm suprised they even entertained the idea of fixing it.

One of my mates had someone run into them a few weeks back. Damage was limited to a crack in the end of the back bumper and a back light, no panel damage. Insurance wrote the car off as uneconomical to repair. That was an 02 Reg toyota something or other. ::)
