  5. I would be worried but thats because my daughter is the same age and they really are still babies in my mind. However it really is a hypocritical view considering what we used to get up to. Oh go on let her go, if you trust her she will be fine.

  6. I'm not sure of her friends yet,we're still in the 'planning' stage, this is something she's wanted all her life, she's a big time photography freak since she was real little & her dream is to be a photographer & tattoo artist. I was a street rat growing up so i knew how take of myself--but i raised her in a family home & NO thuglife.:D

  7. oif you trust her then that says it all in my opinion, as long as she has her head screwed on (which i'm sure she does) then she won't do anything stupid...

    :)

    live the life you love!

  8. Anybody in or from London?

  9. It's like any big city with areas that are better than others ,best find out where she might stay and see if anyone knows the hotel or area

  10. Somewhere far worse, Sheerness !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. she'll be 4650.3 Miles (7483.9 Kilometers) from home. and i'm a over protective dad.

  12. I spent a good deal of my working life in London

  13. She'll be fine but if it would put your mind at ease there are quite a few of us on here from London that could be emergency contacts.
How streetwise is she? Is she old or young for her age?
London is less dangerous imho than some of the larger american cities but you still have to take normal precautions.
It will be an incredible adventure

  14. If she's got her head screwed on and she's going with friends, I'd say she'd be fine.

London's a great, great place (and a great place to photograph) - I never tire of it. It's got good bits and shady bits, like any big city, but she'll be fine if she sticks to the good bits. It's not dangerous - you can walk around the West End, down by the Thames, etc at midnight, and you're still surrounded by plenty of folk (including many other Americans - they're everywhere :) ). She won't be instantly mugged!

Worth getting reasonable hotel, but only because some of the cheap tourist ones are the pits!

If she's sensible, go for it! Send me a PM if you've got Qs.

  15. live just outside London. Worked in the city for 11 years. My 21 year old daughter works in Tottenham Court Road now. Like very city theres good and bad bits - you've just got to know where to avoid like any tourist. I must admit I've never really understood where foreign tourists stay when they visit the UK, we have B&Bs and Travelodges but they are not the accommodation you expect if you are a UK visitor to the States.

London hotels generally remind me of those in NYC: Crap and expensive.

  17. this definitely, unless you pay top dollar. You will also find that most hotels have a check in age limit of 18+

Last time I did that I didn't realise quite how top-dollar it could be:
Checked into a hotel *******ed and woke up to a bill for £1700!!!

  19. you're basically looking at youth hostels (not sure of the quality), comfort inns or premierinns at Gatwick or Heathrow, then lesser known "hotels" or top notch hotels in central london - for two weeks at the premier inn at heathrow you're looking at £1000 just for accomodation or £500 for two weeks at the London Eye Hostel. I always use Expedia because of the traveller reviews - the best recommendations are from those who have stayed there - my last few holidays have all been using expedia and I've had great hotels in Florids and California on the back of these customer reviews.

  20. Plenty of 16 year olds and younger-year olds navigate London every day. She'll be fine if she is planning on sticking to the beaten track. I was going up by myself aged 12 without problems, and that was over 20 years ago. London is a lot safer now than then, (granted I am a bloke).

I foresee few problems as long as she is sensible. As Jen said, there is a large TLB contingent who could act as safety net/panic alarm if needed.
