    How does it go??

  4. To handle the extra power, what did you do to the suspension, brakes and gearbox? When a 225bhp turbo engine's fitted I've been told you'd need a custom box, whereas a normally aspirated 2 litre (130bhp) or 2.5 (160bhp) wouldn't. Just keen to know because I'll soon be fitting an N/A 2.5 Subaru flat 4 and keep getting conflicting advice. As far as I see it, for the lower powered N/A engine, the only upgrades I'll need is slightly stiffer springs. Brakes are servo, which is apparently considered adequate. The gearbox is the 091. The 091 is OK as is, but might need to make fourth gear slightly longer so she ticks over at just 3250 rpm at 80 mph. Then again I've been told that the Ozzie boxes (like mine) were always geared longer that their UK counterparts, so may not require any adjustment at all. Would love to hear what you think easy-does-it. And where did you put the rad? Under the bus is the best place isn't it? There's a company called TSR who do these conversions (they're not doing mine). They put the rads in the engine bay. Surely, that'll restrict air flow and seeing as they put the rad in front of the engine, that'll severely restrict access to the engine?

  5. Sorry for the delay guys, ive been in france for the last couple of weeks and the site wifi was pants at best..

Ok, it's all my own work, i did have a build ( well slapped together thread) but was lost when the site crashed, i'll try and re-do it at the weekend.
At the moment it on original suspension, it's not a race van and i don't drive it like it was a scooby but i do want something better. The brakes are standard and ive only just added a servo ( 9" servo 22mm master cylinder) and it stops bloody well, but again at a later date i would like a porsche set up.. Last year i ran it on a standard 1600 box but the ratio's were so bad it cost me a fortune in fuel, i now have a bears built 091 box with longer ratio's and it's spot on..

as for how it goes.. completely changed the bus, in the sense it feels like the old girl only smoother and stronger... and when you want to overtake or even just make it up the hill it glides with ease....and if you want to upset a few people on the motorway you can ;D .............. well it did until a couple of weeks ago when an oil pipe for the cooler split and emptied the contents all over the dartford bridge, so i might need a new engine, at least i gives me a chance to change that awefull exhaust...

    cheers :)

oh sorry misted out a few questions , most people put the rads under the bus, it's tried and tested and you can now get rad set ups ready made. Ive got mine in the front, cos it's low and i was worried about catching it on stuff, note the cut out behind the vw badge and the fresh air grill is for rad only which is why there's a box under the dash . Alot of people are just running straight 091 boxes without any problems, when i bought this box it wouldnt go in to first or second (and it's originally a t25 side nose change) so i got the longer ratio's done while it was apart ( and i had the cash :'( )..
