It is for services to the Deaf & hard of hearing. we have known about it for about a month but were sworn to secrecy! Also because we will be invited to Buckingham Palace we have all been thoroughly checked out by MI5 - bit un-nerving!!
This sort of thing is what she is up against, as is the whole Deaf community. People should give them a break, maybe help them from time to time, learn a bit of their language, it isn't that hard, in fact BSL should be taught at primary school level, then they would have a better understanding of the difficulties facing Deaf people & their families. Our eldest son was born hearing but had meningitis at 13m old which took away his hearing leaving him totally Deaf & at that point Mrs ST made it her duty to protect & help him any way she could. So ........... good for her I say! She bloody deserves this MBE!
John take the camper wear a dread lock wig have a big head on the go and high five the copper on the gate
I just thought.... I could buy you that pint I owe you! We must meet up for a drink when we are down there!
We could have pie mash and eels, then a few pints in the George, Saturday night is karaoke night, then we’ll hit the lights, I better get my white suit cleaned
Good to hear about a proper honour, not one of those "services to getting yourself filthy rich and finding jobs for your mates" type honours
We are akin to royalty now Barry, one doesn't consume pie & ........mash or any such thing or I might add frequent the 'George' on a Saturday night!
A friend of mine teaches sign language at college and through a number of private classes. It always amazes me how many pupils she has and the reasons they have for learning BSL, quite a lot learn it for personal reasons or to help in the community. I myself wear (or should wear) aids in both ears and realise only too well how precious hearing is.
Little known fact.... 1 in 7 people in this country are Deaf or deafened. Deaf people are not allowed to compete in the Olympics because they are classed as disabled nor are they allowed to compete in the Paralympics as they are classed as too able bodied unless they fall into a different Paralypic class so they have their own which they must fund themselves is not televised & rarely even reported on.
