Unless the front valance rust is within "whatever it is" from the steering box that should have passed. Mind you it's best to have sills.

  3. I have sills but the near side isnt attached to the floor, and the off side has a few bad repairs. :( , the chassis member thats a bit soft is the one with the three big holes in it about inline with the door pillars.
I have seen a repair member for this that slips over the original is this a good idea?
I could do with getting the bus on the road for the summer then do the work properly over the winter, we have been away at the welsh coast the last two weekends and i don't want to start major work i want to use it.

  4. I feel your pain!

I'm loosing sleep already over my MOT on Friday knowing I already need an outrigger sorting!

  5. fit belly pans - whack loads of underseal on- take it for test somewher else and do the job properly in summer.... oh no thats my van!

  6. Heritage do the front cross member your talking about and possibly GSF (veewee)

This is not the sort of thread I need to read just before bedtime. My MOT is due this week and now I'm going to have nightmares!!

  8. They are all fairly stock replacement parts, i wouldn't bother with slipping another cross member over the old, its probably the most straight forward part to replace on the list

  9. cool air stock all th autocraft panels chris and you get your discount ;)

    Did this fail?
No! - I imagine it was trapped in the rock and roll bed hinge when he tugged, not when I did though.

    or this?
Nope - I could only get one finger in to start it - pushed that though a rusty looking bit, then all fingers and pulled. It looked fine from under and had furniture on top. Not sure rust here is a fail anyway.

    How about this?
Nope. And there was a great deal of it on the MOT inspectors ramp. Actually, young inexperienced chap failed it, then got a bollocking from old experienced tester. I suggested not to worry as it was getting fixed anyway.

This is all the same bus - daily driver.

    Next bus - mine.

    This?
No, but similar on drivers side did fail.

    This?
    No.

FIND AN OLDER GUY WHO'S DONE IT FOR MOST OF HIS LIFE, KEEPS UP WITH THE RULES BUT UNDERSTANDS THEM AND APPLIES THEN TO THE LETTER.

Younger more inexperienced testers err on the safe side - they don't want to loose their mot work. It takes balls to pass the stuff I've posted - you have to be bloody sure of what you're doing. I never encourage him in any way to pass even borderline stuff - I don't stay for the test and bug him. Don't get me wrong, anything in the prescribed areas gets the works. Most outriggers pass when they're hanging, but he's had his tape out and the front left one is near enough the brake compensator to fail.

If you're buying a van and think the MOT is a reflection on the condition..... Think again.

    That's all folks.

  13. you been at my bus there Zed!!!!

  14.
  15. Our bus looks mint from the outside, he thinks that when the work on the floor was done the sill was never reattached.
Will I have to seam weld the repair or can i spot weld it?
I've just put the interior in and tiled the floor which i will have to remove :(
I will take some pic's if i get a chance and post them up.

I think that's very likely Chris. It was spot welded originally. Take the floor out, do it properly and it won't end up like this one needing it all doing again...

Repairs with furniture in aren't very helpful in the long run.

  17. Sills, out riggers, chassis member and jacking points ordered today, Thanks to Big Rich at cool air for your help and thank you everyone for your input :)
