My Beetle tax is out on 31 July, the mot out on Sept 14th, i don't want to tax the Beetle until at least the end of September so i'll have no mot when it's due, what are the rules about mot'ing while not taxed but having no intention of taxing? example, if i take it for mot on 14 sept so the mot is still valid but then don't tax it is that ok? also let's say i decide to let the mot lapse too and mot it on 30 sept' will i get done for driving it with no tax and no mot to the test station? (bear in mind i want to use one a good 30 miles away) i know the law states you can take an un mot'd car for a test if it's pre booked but am i pushing the rules?

  2. Although i didn t have to drive 30miles ive just finished my bus and its on a sorn and i had it Mot d fine intend taxing it end of month , Was cocerned because the new mot way means your Vehicle is now logged etc but Mot station said it was fine , i talked to a police friend , he said if he had pulled me , he would of been happy for me to carry on , obviously as long as i was only doin the required milage between testing station and garage/home . on another day i supose if you got pulled by someone having a bad day they could be picky ..

  3. if you SORN it you dont need the MOT - but to get it back on the road you need the MOT before you get the tax - so you'd need to trailer it to the test centre

    or so i believe

  4. You are ok to and from a mot centre as long as you are booked in and you only go to and from the garage and you can do it with out tax and test if you get pulled they normally ask for the name and phone no of the garage and ring them to check it is booked in. I usually have at least 1 person every 2 weeks asking this ;D my polo is currently sorned and when the mot is up on that i will put a ticket on it and not tax it so they are not at the same time hope that help's dude ;D

coolio! i know the beetle is a fail anyway gotta do some work on it, brake heavy and feel a knock/shift from front nearside, suspect track rod or ball joint wear.....

  8. You will need to SORN it when the tax runs out.
When you book in for MOT, be sure that the guy makes a not that your vehicle is SORN'd & that he writes down your registration number.
Get him to read it back to you.
It shouldn't be a problem, but if you get pulled by PC Zealous, there won't be much he can say when the garage owner knows exactly what he's expecting.

This assumes that your vehicle is roadworthy, if not, put it on a trailer.

cheers, yes it is sorned as of 1/8/12 i did it this morning, i 'may' just do the mot on renewal day but chances are i'll leave it until i decide to tax it, moley76 above will test it anyway so p.c jobsworth will ring him and i'll be ok.

  10. Some interesting/good advice here, rather than start another thread - when it is pre booked into an MOT station for MOT and the previous one has expired, can you legally carry passengers to and from the testing station? (Obviously we believe the vehicle to be safe)
