In my early twenties i started doing mobile discos at weddings, christenings, birthday partys etc Then i moved on to be a resident dj at a few bars and play the odd small club here and there I used to use vinyl and cds but the worlds moved on and it appears all mobile discos use laptops Im considering starting my own mobile disco buisness and concentrate on the weddings, christening and birthday partys etc The thing is i dont own a laptop and ive no idea where to start with what sort i would need and how to use it to do a function Is anyone a singer, mobile dj or entertainer that uses this set up and if so could you give me some advice please Ive no problem when it comes to the lighting rig,amp and speakers or jumping right back into it its just the loss of turntables and cd decks thats my concern
buy a mac and get djay 3.0. best ive used. I can mix and i'm a rank amatuer. God knows what someone who knew what theyre doing with it could do with it.
My mate likes to mix in his spare room ( he's not a DJ he's just sad) . he bought a package including the software & mixing desk thing . you just upload it like any other software to any Windows laptot . il find out what the setup is called and where to buy it tomorow for you . good bit of kit
OK As promised. I use Virtual DJ on my Mac (and you can get it for PC too) with an M-Audio soundcard so that I have an output to a PA and a monitor for headphones. It's a great bit of software and you can do a whole host of effect on it. In terms of music I have a 1TB external hard drive which is where my iTunes stores my music - this means that the music is not stored on any one computer so when I upgrade machines (like i did last month) I just plug in the hard drive and its all there. I back up the external hard drive onto a 2ndry hard drive on my server - so if the external drive ever broke/got stolen I can retain most of my music. The hard drive currently has 16k songs or 48 days worth of non stop music. This is great for weddings and parties etc. I then have a PA and speakers, lights and a mixer which I plug my soundcard into so I can plug in wireless microphones and additional music inputs if ever needed - ie if someone has a song on an ipod they really want to hear. Hope this helps .... PS - If anyone in the South every needs a DJ - give me a shout!
