Missing pipe/hoses ...ID help

  1. Hi All,
i have attached a few pics of the engine bay can you please fill in the gaps for us, we are missing pipes/hoses etc any info greatfully received.
we not sure what goes where and what type of hose or pipe we should be using.....I have put letteres and some dotted lines to try and make some sense of it...
we..I think but i'm probably wrong that:-

there should be a pipe /hose from A to B?

does C go to D ( which is not quite in shot but is on the back edge of the flat wide plastic upper part of the airbox that connects to the top of the carb )

Pipe K goes to E? under the airfilter box ,there is a pipe/hose that i think links one manifold to the other and pipe K t's off in the middle directly under the airfilter box.

Should there be anything attached at the outlet H?

in the other pic should there be a hose/pipe fromS to T? and elbow fittings?
any help really will be greatfully received .

    heres hoping that made sense...
    thanks
    Lee

  6. Mine is a 79 and slightly different but we should be able to make sense of it.

A on mine goes to the top of the air filter box but I guess it's the same idea.
    C I don't have.
K goes to the underside of the box between air filter and carb. I thinks it supplies preheated air to the idle system. There are 2 pipes here (F&E). K connects to the brass one. The other is plastic and connects to H which is a preheater unit.
S and T should have rubber elbows and a metal pipe joining them up. This is the main air feed into the idle unit.

Your bus will run without any of these, but will miss out on all the refinements VW designed in.

  9. Hey Andyv,
A to D , C to B maybe right for me then. what kind of hose do I need to use- where do i get it etc, cheers

  10.
  11. more advice on vacuum hose etc needed......sizes etc....please :)

  12. You just need some of that black cotton braided hose available at most motorist shops. From A-D it's around 15 mm ID. The others are 4-5 mm ID. The original pipe to K on mine goes through a short length of braided hose then into a length of nylon tubing then back to braided, like on the distributor, but it would be fine if it was the same all the way.

All are push fit only and don't need clips.

  13. Cheers andy
    Will Check it later. ;)

  15. Hi Andyv
does this look right, (see pic below ) hose from A to D, used 13mm water hose from motor factors couldn't find any of the braided stuff in the size i needed to fit, will this be ok............went for a little drive and this hose seemed to get quite hot!!

  16. Should be OK - it's only carrying fumes from the crankcase.

  17. sorry Andy,
its heater hose ...think i said water hose....its thick and reinforced ..i think ;)
