Our 77 which has just been purchased has Saab seats fitted which are to high for my wife. Looking at alternatives to replace with similar to stock but cheaper. Have come across some MGB seats. Has any one tried these and if so are they easy to fit?
Mine had seats from an Alfa when I bought it - totally horrible - so I fitted MGF ones - look good ,easy fit and very comfortable.
My last van had rover seats they were really comfy not sure what model they came from but were great. My original seats in my current van I got custom made sheepskin covers on which look like 70’a porn but are extremely comfy and you don’t sweat in summer and keep warm in winter. Again not aesthetically the best but function over form in this case.
As I like to say - the originals are sprung for a reason - you are sitting directly over the front wheels. I don't like the hard ride of thin car seats personally, must be my bad back and bony arse. Late seats are well shaped and comfortable IMO.
I've got MGB seats in mine, at the time stock seat were like hens teeth when I was looking for a pair. They are comfortable and low profile, others have commented on how comfortable they are. there is a thread on here somewhere on how to fit them,
I’ve not long put MGF seats in mine then drove 3 1/2 hours to wales there were pretty good compared to the ones that were in when I bought the van.
Having owned a couple of MGBs i wouldn`t have thought they`d be at all comfortable in a van - low but certainly not a comfy ride - and yes , they were refurbed 20 years ago I temporarily fitted a pair of almost new front seats from a rear end shunted Nissan something-or-other executive from the local scrappy - 20 quid - no complaints
My mate has Mitsubishi Starion seats and they are very comfy and look great - his are a red wine burgundy colour but have seen in light grey as well. Hard to get hold of but fit easily apparently
i think mgf seats look good. i read that you sit quite high on them? Not as high as saab which are even higher. I had very well restored original seats in my bay and hated them. springs are imo not a good idea for a seat as you will bounce - i always felt like i was going to fall off and i had a bad back after long drives as the flat cushions didn't support you. i don't know of any modern vehicle that still uses springs in the seat i replace my oem seats with mx5 - they are lower than stock seats which is what i wanted - nice and comfy but also more supportive than OEM bay seats. I've driven 7 ,8 hours in these and they feel great. i fitted mine without any drilling: fitting non-late bay seat (without drilling any holes in your bus) | The Late Bay MX5 Seats in my late bay by Rob E, on Flickr
