    Hello everyone,

This is my first posting, and unfortunately a frustrating one.
I used it yesterday and after paying the toll online this morning, found that i was charged £12 for two crossings. I happily phoned the helpline assuming it was a simple mistake but was horrified to find out i was charged the same as a motorhome as the V5C description is a Motor Caravan and the £12 was correct!!
My van is 1979 tintop bay which actually at the moment has my interior removed ready for some routine annual welding!
Has anyone else used the new mersey gateway bridge at Runcorn/Widnes and what charges did they pay?

    PS Happy New Year

    Jeff

  2. No - I will avoid it like the plague and use the tunnel - it's cheaper.

    Welcome along.

Not used that crossing but for dartford toll I get charged the same as a car. I’m registered as a motor caravan too I think

It happens at a lot of tolls.
If it's a manned booth it's luck of the draw; if it's automatic they tend to measure height above front wheels to decide what sort of vehicle you're in.
Not sure how it works with anpr tolls.

  5. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of charging me TBH so no I haven't used it. I think that it is outrageous that they charge not least due to the amount they charge. Realistically I have no real reason to go across it anyway as the M56 covers my needs nicely crossing the Manchester Ship Canal either on the M6 or one of the Warrington bridges.

Yeah, i've only ever been charged same as a car before when crossing the Severn bridge and also using the Mersey Tunnel.
I guess because your dealing with human beings at normal toll booths a little common sense applies but this new crossing is purely a camera detects you and you pay online. Hi Razzyh, isn't the Dartford crossing the same type of toll collection too???

  7. I just googled it and yes it is a fine new bridge and cost a lot to build, but it seems to have stirred up a lot of controversy over toll charges and worse the penalty charges if you miss the payment deadline.

There is some mention of discounts and an annual payment option for locals.

Yeah, i guess i won't be using it again unless a resolution has been agreed which is a shame as my Brother lives on the dark side so i guess it's either a Tunnel toll or a trip through Warrington (via IKEA probably!) :(

  9. cost your time and fuel using the longer route vs using the toll bridge. if its everyday trip, then £12 would add up over the year, but if few trips maybe pay for the convenience.

In all fairness, the tunnel route is probably the shortest, but i'll probably take my other rusty VW (car) on the drive in the future

  11. save you money

The dartford is now a ANPR you just drive over, no booth. I’ve registered an online account (even though I probably only use it 1 or 2 times a year) and I get charged the price of a car.

  14. Hang on! Can't I still use the Runcorn bridge, the nice old one for free??? That's the best bit of my London Liverpool runs, haven't touched the m6 toll as they do the same. Even more reason to take the train to see the family

  15. No. I'm afraid that the old bridge is closed for repairs and when it re-opens it too will become a toll bridge! It is totally outrageous as this is of course the most convenient place to cross the Mersey for people coming from Wales.

  16. Thats a lot money to pay for the crossing. I use Dartford Crossing (when I have to) and get charged £1.70 each way with an account with them.

  17. Use dartford crossing and get charged £1.70 each way using a low cost account and van is registered as a motor caravan!

  18. That's right - it's a disgrace

  19. Any body fancy a mass type 2 bay window breakdown on the bridge in protest. Should be easy to arrange (the breakdown that is)

  20. if you get the big yellow taxi piggy back style across the bridge do you still have to pay
