Memories, what I used to do for a job.

  1. There's a blast from the past...they're getting a bit long in the tooth now...

Spent a year of my life trying to get Tornado ground equipment to work properly, as some of it had been designed by the Less Than Talented...thrust reverser test sets ("lock...stow...deploy...lock...stow...deploy"), engine overspeed governor, engine pyrometer. But not the nozzle. Nobody wanted to work on the nozzle.

  3. There was a thing on the telly about the Panama canal the other hight. Assume you've been through it a few times @fritt?

I always naively thought it was one long canal, rather than a series of lakes with bits joining them up...

  4. Many times but never seen it in one go... ****watchkeeping meant seeing it in bits. I was sorely tempted a while back to do a run through the Canal but it meant flying across to Florida then island hopping down ( or is it up ) to Cristobal to do the transit. Island hopping even on a gin palace is boring in the extreme and I don't enjoy flying either......

  5. Long in the tooth! my vc10's have just retired.I didnt fancy that green overalls, shaving in cold water malarkey. Transport did it for me.

  6. Fritt, you have some crackin' history.

  7. I'm a bit out of my depth here. I used to make this and other stuff until the powers that be got greedy and decided that Flu vaccine was the future, so much so that me and 90 odd other staff got laid off and our jobs were sent to Italy and our factory was closed!

  8. Incredible that they lasted so long albeit with a few mods on the way. I seem to recall a promo film put out by the then Inflight Refueling Co extolling the virtues of their system.

  13. As long as you don't overstress anything, it's unlikely to fall off...

did you fly in from miami beach?

  15. BOAC = Better On A Camel :)

I fondly remember doing the Munich run on creaky old Dan Dare BAC 111s, that used to shed various parts as they staggered down the runway...
