Mechanical fuel pump removal

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Craigy6, Apr 20, 2017.

  1. Hello,
    I recently had an oil leak which was coming from the mechanical fuel pump bolted to the side of my Type 1 1700cc engine (pancake/suitcase style) so I bought a blanking plate and gasket from JK.
    When I came to fit the plate I realised that the bolts were too long, due to them fitting when I had the mechanical pump flange and a bakelite/nylon flange. But because the blanking plate is much thinner it means the bolts are too long. I've searched the web to see if I can find an answer but I can't seem to find one, so here goes;
    Do I need to buy a bakelite flange and fit it with the blanking plate OR do I simply need shorter bolts?

    PS i have had an electric pump since we've owned the van.

    Thanks in advance.

    Shorter bolts will be fine.

    We made our own blanking plate, used the Bakelite spacer & gaskets, popped a bit of sealant on and jobs a good in!
