mech fuel pump

  1. Help - how quickly should a mech pump fill a jam jar? Trying to find out what is at fault with no fuel getting through.

  2. If you're getting good, healthy spurts (matron), it's working :)

  3. trouble is I'm on my own so can see when I crank the engine - hence wondering how quick it should fill up

  4. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Get one long wire with a spade on the end.
connect to starter inplace of the one that's on there (from the ignition switch).
Dab it on the battery to turn the engine over.*

*Disclaimer - if you cause a spark and blow yourself up with the petrol spurting about, that's not my fault. Might be better to enlist a random passer by to turn the key - people love to help.

  5. I nabbed a courier driver who was making a delivery!! Pump working fine, it was the isolating valve working via the oil light that wasn't allowing any fuel though and causing it's fuse to blow.

Anyway got it running again but its running like a sack of s**t - getting to the end of my love for the van as it spends more of its life being fixed than it does working.
