  1. Ah the G Wagen, I use'd to sell them new in 1989, now reintroduced I think you can spend close on 90 grand on on one!

  2. 90 grand ouch thats a lot

  3. safe to assume its a fit vehicle then?

  4. What a piece of kit thay are, we used to have a swb g wagen . so much better of road than any landrover
and beautiful to drive . Incredibly reliable too.

  5. Save your pennies for the g wagen I drove a new 110 county to Morocco, it pumped all the oil out of the engine
while we were in the Sahara desert, phoned landrover assist ,thay said sorry but your outside Europe your warranty doesn't
count. thay never asked if we were safe and well just phone if you get back to Europe.

  12. Just the one trip, set of from Selby on monday morning, through France via the Millau bridge , east coast of Spain to algesires,
ferry to Morocco, south over the Atlas mountains then down into the Sahara to the minefields on the Algerian border, then turned round and drove home via the atlantic coast. took about a month. great adventure , would highly recomend it.

  13. How much of such a trip could you do in a camper do you reckon?

Agree, The G wagons are ace, and the new V8 ones are bit out of my price range with all the AMG goodies :'(

Theres a G wagon sitting neglected in someones front garden near me that I've got my eye on, its an early 90's one and covered in i moss/leaves, but I'm not sure what they're worth.

I know someone who's just bought a Merc Unimog for restoration, thats a serious bit of kit!

  17. Although some may disagree, i don't think a late bay would survive the off roading . Once the tarmac runs out you are traveling on rough tracks which are made From rocks and gravel . Evan the good bits are corrugated and shake Evan well prepared vehicles , showing up any week points. you need good underbody protection to guard against damage from the rocks and large potholes. I
would not dare to travel with the engine so exposed , there is a very strong chance of smashing a hole in the sump.
The dust is the real killer though, with a raised air intake you need to clean the air filter maybe once a week .
Without one you would need to clean it every day . A syncro would be perfect , except for the steep rocky decents and the river crossings, thay would be quite difficult without a transfer box . you need to carry enough spare fuel, food, and water to servie for 4 or 5 days because getting stuck or breaking down can very soon turn into a life threatening situation, don't travel alone in the desert. IT was the best time of our lives and would recomend it to anyone, the best bit of advice i could give you is
    "bye a Toyota"
