I am quite happy to say this, having had my ears blasted by 2 hours of ultimate Primal Scream raaawck-age.

What a gig. . . . and only we were only 3 people from the front!!

Gutted!! bet you had an awsome night!!! They played liverpool uni when i was there an when they had just done screamadelica and it was one of the best nights I have ever been to!!!

Absolute mad edds!! but they made a brilliant night!!

Long live the proper rock n rollers!!!!

Ear plugs are for big girlies!! The whole point of a gig is having that pain in your chest and ears the next day!! Makes you know your ticket money went on a hell of a sound system!! ;D

Agreed. I want to feel my rib cage booming like a fat ass bass bin and feel my ears are ready to explode. Loudest band ive seen is The Prodigy at the smaller venues they play

God no - the complete opposite.

I have seen fellow musicians ears destroyed by loud music ... they now have non stop tinitus and cant make music any more because of it.

You can get good ear plug which allow the sounds through but stop harmful frequencies.

I believe that you can wear ear plugs - feel the bass and save your ears.
I always wear them as I do not want to damage my ears any more than they are already - If I could not hear - I could not make music - If I could not make music - I would be the most depressed human ever!

For the record the loudest show I was ever at was Leftfield at Brixton in 97/98? The bass was so loud the building literally fell apart!

As a professional musician, DJ, producer and radio presenter it goes without saying that I love music. Blasting my eardrums with loud music was what I lived for for many years, and the ringing in my ears that I experienced afterwards – which I often thought of as a sign of a brilliant night – was always something that went away after a day or so. But it was about 10 years ago that the high-pitched tone in my ears failed to go away. It became a permanent noise and one which I later learnt was tinnitus.

As well as knowing first-hand how hard it can be to cope with the constant high-pitched noise in my ears, I also know countless DJs, musicians and music lovers who are affected by tinnitus as a result of exposure to loud music. While we are all now aware of the dangers and take precautions, such as using specialist ear plugs to reduce the impact of loud music and prevent further hearing damage, ultimately we are resigned to a life with tinnitus. So are many thousands of others who make up the massive 10% of the UK’s population who experience tinnitus. It is a travesty to think that so many of these cases could have been prevented through better tinnitus awareness.

I believe it is crucial that music lovers should be encouraged to continue enjoying music, but that they should also be better informed about how to protect their long-term hearing. Working with the BTA, and with the support of many of those friends and colleagues with tinnitus, I want to spread the message about the importance of protecting your ears when attending gigs, concerts and when listening to very loud music. The long-term hearing health of the nation is at stake and I am making it my priority to do all I can to support the BTA in its aim to raise better tinnitus awareness.

Wearing hearing protection needn’t kill the music. Good ear plugs simply decrease the music volume without affecting the fidelity of the music and in turn prevent hearing damage. I continue to fuel my passion for music but now do so without risking further damage. I carry my hearing protection everywhere and, as a result, I feel healthier and happier, and find that my sleep is no longer disrupted by my tinnitus.

It is important to understand that tinnitus is not just a clubbers’ affliction. People with a passion for classical music or opera who attend live concerts or who listen to loud music at home are just as likely to experience tinnitus as those who favour nightclubs and noisy bars.

I remember being deaf for 3 days after a John McLaughlin & The Mahavishnu Orchestra gig back in the early 70's. Serves me right for being right in front of a speaker stack to take pictures, wish I'd worn ear plugs.

I was there also and if memory serves me right there was dust raining down from the celling and the floor was close to cracking down at the barrier.
