Making a bumper straight again?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by oscar, Sep 25, 2012.

  1. Took my bumper off at the weekend in order to straighten it. Hope this makes sense but its straight in itself, just has a lot of dings here and there (not me :)) ) I've been using a rubber mallet with a bit of wood behind, to get it back to shape but its not working out like I thought it would. Has anyone got any tips for doing this?

metal hammer and metal dolly! its quite thick steel so probably needs a bit more force!

  3. as dog said ^^

the rubber hammer will absorb most of the impact TBH mate

if your pannel beating out small dents then a metal hammer will be better, or even use a bit of wood over the raised part and hit the wood with a metal hammer

  4. That makes sense. I'll give it a go.
    Thanks for the quick replies.

  6. I Had to do this on my bumpers , got out what i could and filled what i could'nt . Came out well ! 8)

  7. i love my very metal bumper ! it has absorbed a lot of abuse re my reversing into objects/bollards , unlike new vehicles with plastic bumpers with light clusters in em ??

  8. Even if you spend hours bashing out the dents, the bits you've worked on will still need filling if you want a straight bumper. Just get the worst of it done with a hammer and then fill it. Or buy a new bumper.

  9. I had to do mine ,lots of hitting with a hammer after a bit of heat and some standing on it lol then filled to make is nice and strait
