I've only used it once in my passat when it first opened. Really enjoyed driving along at well over 100mph as the speed limit wasn't enforceable at the time. Got stopped at the toll and told not to drive so fast. Can't believe its the same price for a van as for a lorry though. No wonder its not making its money.
The fact that they charge motorbikes is hilarious - I was on it faffing about trying to find my wallet, then card etc etc. No way was there a queue of *******ed off Beemers behind me - but what am I to do?
Just for the record it cost £900,000,000.00 to build ,that could have been spent fixing spaggetti junction
After they built the M6 Toll they spent the best part of 6-7 years rebuilding the viaduct section around Spaghetti Junction anyway. I think they had to replace all the support beams because they'd got concrete cancer. I live about a mile away from "Gravelly Hill Interchange", to give it its proper title.
I did the same when I owned a calibra turbo years back, wanting to test its top speed I treated the M6T as a RWYB event, think it was under £3 then aswell - good value
They are charged - its more the issue its a real ache de ball to sort ouy payment when you are riding one is all.
Sorry I missed out the 'not'. So are you saying anyone that has trouble getting the fee out in a certain time should have to pay. Think I put my wallet under me pop top so I have to rise it in order to get wallet that should take lon enough.
Its a rip off that bays are dearer than cars on M6 when we get away with car price at the Dartford crossing on the M25!
Not at all - where have I said that? I've merely said that its hard to pay when on a motorbike and that car drivers aren't sympathetic to the amount of time it takes is all - **edited as I was being an arse. As an aside, have you ever ridden a motorbike? If you have, and wore the proper protective clothing, you'll know that there is no quick and easy way to sort out paying - leave alone if its *******ing down with rain - try fart arsing about with a bum bag when wearing a helmet and gloves The only other places I've ridden that had tolls (Dartford crossing and both 7 bridges) don't make bikes pay (least they didn't last time I was on them, I suspect for the simple reason that they take time in the tolls and at approx 1/8th the weight of a bay do far less damage to the road. Personally, I'm fine with paying.
The bumbag remark was not serious. I completely understand its not easy and those behind are more than likely not understanding. I must of read it different to how you wrote it looked to me as if you were saying bike shouldn't have pay as its a plan.
I always use it when going to Scotland. Its always empty. Brilliant. So what if it costs me. I only do it a few times a year anyhow. You can easily lose a tenner in one of those services on grub. Therefore use the tenner for the M6 and lose weight. Everyones a winner.
What annoy's me about the M6 toll is you have to turn off to carry on down the M42. I was is the outside lane once and missed the turning got charged £5 for the privilege and then £5 on the way back to get back on track. Although I'm more careful now. As soon as I see them toll signs I sit in the inside lane. Lesson learnt.
I have actually seen police monitoring speeds on there - they also use unmarked BMW's on that stretch ....
They've got to get their money back from what they've lost on letting some Bay owners have free road tax
