M plate lost

  1. Somehow misplaced M plate whilst doing works over the years, I have M plate decoder online I did years ago;
    It states Rhd kombi, OR, planned production 30-5-73 and destination Ramsgate UK, is bottom box 34 5 week 34 day 5 in 1973 as it was not registered until 01-04-74 which I assume was normal back then.
    Any how struggling to find somewhere to make a replacement, only blanks online and someone on the samba doesnt make them any more.. Have original chassis plate and all numbers seem to be correct.
    Dont really want to put up all numbers for obvious reasons.

    I just looked, on my bus the M plate is embossed from the rear with a 5mm high character sizes. It was then painted over , looks like factory paint, so it has no VW printing on it.
    So that is one thing you could make from a blank sheet of aluminium.
    But reverse 5mm metal punches are about £80 a set for 5mm high set of 36 on eBay.

    Or you could try getting a facsimile 3-D printed using some reasonably hard plastic and then hammering on a piece of hard rubber or leather on top of the aluminium sheet on top of the 3 D print, it might work.

    Soggz and the 3 crispies like this.
