Hi I wonder if someone can enlighten me on some confusion I have after decoded my m-plate. According to the website the exterior paint codes are L90D (Pastel White) over L63H (Sage Green). And on type2.com it says that these paints were only used on Westfalia campers. However ours had a Devon interior and has a Devon poptop. This has confused me as to the history of my bus. Can anyone help? Thanks
Pastel white over sage green was used on many busses (including mine), not only Westfalias, so your bus is kosher!
What year and conversion model is it? The VW camper - inside story book has devons in those colours ... if you can let me know the info I'll try & scan & post the page for you
Oh brilliant thank you It's a 1977 Kombi. I did see in 'the Little book of Campervan' and old advert in the Devon Section a white over green model. But interestingly the poptop canvas is also green. Ours is yellow. It was just strange in the 'remarks' section that it said Westfalia
My understanding was that White over another colour buses were supplied as minibuses and then converted by Devon, Dormobile etc. Solid paint vans, green, orange and white were supplied direct to Westfalia for conversion.
There's a fine Sage Green/White Devon the the pic above, same as mine. The canvas should be revolting stripey green. Maybe yours was changed at some point?
Hmmm perhaps it was changed to the yellow stripe when the van was painted solid yellow. I imagine a yellow poptop over a green bus would be too hideous to consider lol. Btw snotty - how do you make sure when you close your pop top that the canvas doesn't stick out the sides? Is there a trick to it?
Ok so according to this brochure they came in blue, orange or green, over white. http://www.devonmoonraker.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/bay/1976b.pdf
Not entirely sure what the problem is. Devon definately shipped Sage green/White busses. The colours will be recorded on the M-plate, as Devon didn't paint them (just cut a hole in the roof with an old hammer and chisel). Mine's exactly those colours, which are on the M-plate. Yours has obviously been resprayed at some point. If the plastic canvas sticks out after lowering (on a late Devon roof), just poke it back under with your fingers. There's no real way of making it fold up nicely: it's a pretty basic design. The late roofs are just a cover, and don't seal against the van roof.
Thanks for your help everyone. I was just a little confused after reading that the colours were only used for Westfalia campers. But it seems that they weren't.
Hi, mine is a mercedes green from 1980 (not my choice, prev. owner's) and has the yellow stripe roof, IMHO doesnt look too horrific, green would obv look better but hey ho! if I have 350 quid spare Ill get it replaced. Heres mine
Oh yes I stand corrected. That looks much better than I imagined. That's a lovely bus. I would much prefer that to the terrible patchy hand painted job that the po tried on ours
