Low spark

  1. Hi I've just put my engine back in after painting the engine bay but it now won't fire up?

The engine was working spot on before it was removed but now it's turning over put not firing up? There seems to only be a faint spark at the plugs?

The engine was serviced not long before it was removed so new plugs, leads, points and disturber?

Any ideas on where to start looking? Could it be a bad earth.

I have a 1971 crossover with a one year only wiring diagram which I'm trying my best to read? Lol

    Any suggest would be great.

  2. condenser... ;)

  3. is the engine earth connected?

  4. Think I would start with the two main ground connections, battery negative to ground and the flexi between the gearbox casing and ground. They need to be spotless before bolting up otherwise you can get a voltage drop where in essence the starter pulls the voltage down and the ignition coil gives a very poor output.

I once painted the inlet manifolds on my 1700. Looked 8), but none of the electrics on the carbs worked until i'd chipped the paint off around the bolt holes.

Who had a quick look over it when passing this week, he double checked all terminals and it fired up, so it just show that being methodical is the key.
