What is it with journalists and opposition politicians?
They constantly bang on about Scotland and Wales having a strategy in place, so why hasn't England.
Yet on the Andrew Marr show yesterday, both those countries ministers said there was no such policies in place.
Why can't the country (s) politcians and journalists pull together, instead of trying to score points or make a name for themselves?

  2. Because journalism is no longer a respectable career which commands respect,
Instead it's become a cheap job where we rewrite existing stories to create click-bait
Which in turn sells the carp papers.

fortunately, most sane / balanced folk just turn off the tv and don't bother with daily papers.

  6. Hopefully it will encourage our 'leaders'to come up with an exit strategy and firm plan

  7. Agreed , but in the eyes of the opposition/media it`ll be wrong whichever route the govenment takes .

You`ve only got to look at the shambolic brexit fiasco as to how our loyal politicians work together for the good of all ...

The problem with publishing an exit strategy, is that whatever time frame is put on it happening, a proportion of the public will say " well it's going to happen soon, I'll do it now ! "
We need to watch and learn from the countries who are relaxing things ... but bear in mind, Spain's relaxation is to let kids outside for an hour... we are already way past that !

The strategy is watch and wait. And then it will be to very very slowly let things change.
It looks like years rather than weeks.
Some of it will depend on being able to track and trace people in a way that any police state would envy.
Even if there is a vaccine, its not going to stop people dying of this alongside flu, forever...

  10. Yep - I agree - this virus is going to be with us forever - we will become used to getting a mild dose every so often and some will die.

All interviewers now are really aggressive, all they are interested in is getting people to "Are you going to" apologise, admit, regret, resign, I have no time for them.

Problem is we are now finding more of the inactivity after being warned of what would happen when something like this hit.
If you had been told your brakes needed sorting and you just carried on driving, then crashed the car killing a passenger, would you view it as just an accident?

Is there anything else on tv at the moment?

  16. I agree. I can't watch breakfast news anymore. How many times can they ask the same questions to so many different people, only to get the same answers back. Even the interviewers must be getting bored senseless!!

  17. My opinion is its too early to make plans for an exit strategy, we have only recently introduced lockdown probably started a few weeks later than should have happened. The virus is out there and widespread and all the while the number of cases is high and rising the risk to non infected people is high and must be contained. It will take time and people have to be patient and stick with the Government's medical expert advice, which is based on facts and observations of other countries. It is not a time to be reckless.

Of course we all want to return to some form of normality, but who wants to go back too soon and risk the nasty virus and its deadly consequences. Not me.

Dr Sarah Jarvis talked a few days ago on the Jeremy Vine Radio 2 program about the effects of the virus and while some lucky folks seem to have had mild symptoms, she said that observations of cases so far have shown the after effects can still be severe and long lasting and the virus can come back again a few weeks later. She tells it how it is, she is a medic not a politician and bases her words on facts and the data.

As time passes, we may see some restrictions lifted a step at a time, and within the UK. Foreign travel may well be severely restricted as airlines may be reluctant to fly to infected countries and those countries may have a lockdown on air travel anyway.

As said we can hope for a vaccine but we should be thinking a year at least, this happened with Swine Flu, remember that one?

  19. I think interviewers have been like that for some time, well before this pandemic. The likes of Piers Morgan and that woman on question time. I think they learned their techniques from Jeremy Kyle. So rude. And how dare they keep saying “the public wants to know”. I don’t. I’m happy to stay home for as long as it takes.
