Lithium battery set up.

  1. Anybody know if it’s possible to convert my start and leisure batteries to lithium?
    Anyone done this?
The advantages I guess would be weight saving and superior AH compared to traditional systems.

Been drooling over those Corvus Energy marine battery packs ?

The only worry I would have is on the equivalent CCA figures. If a car battery has a CCA rating of about 8C, a high discharge rate LiFeP04 is lower , more like 5 or 6C
So you need 1.5 to 2x the capacity of the lead acid battery for a replacement LiFePO4 starter battery.

Our 24 volt /100AH lithium batteries ( based on 18650 laptop style cells, same size casing as small truck batteries but much lighter) we use on a small boat for propulsion trip out at 100 amps: if you tried to start an engine you might need 3 or 4 batteries in parallel.
    Space may be a problem.

Probably better going for something like the Rolls sealed lead acid starter or even a Bosch S4 wet lead acid which are very small just for starting and then your big 100-200AH lithium battery for everything else....
Or a bank of supercaps you charge up for starting.

The little starter packs arent really designed for daiily thrashing..
