Lights out!

  1. I suddenly have no right indicators (front and rear) but also no reverse lights (both sides) or the braking light, also on the right side! These all went at the same time after a fuse was replaced relating to something else. All the bulbs are fine. Could it be the relay and can you test a relay??? I can't really afford to take it to the garage right now and have tried to follow the electrical diagram on a haynes manual but went boss-eyed!!! Any ideas anyone? :(

Give the fuses a twiddle and make sure the connections in the fuse box is clean.

Check your earths but my money is on the fuse box

  3. I think on mine the indicators are on the same fuse so if only the right side isn't working it may be the earth to the right rear light cluster or a loose connection there? I think fuse #11 does both indicators. My reverse lights are aftermarket so the fuse is on the cable underneath! Yours probably not (may also be fuse #11). This fuse also apparently does the fuel gauge and warning lamps. They working?

It does depend on year and model though as the fuse box changed a lot.

  4. this ^^ id check rear light earth wire is connected tight n clean also a twiddle on fuse

  5. I have a 1977 bay. The hazards are working.

  6. Oh and when I checked all the bulbs, one of the reverse lights had blown, but replacing it didn't help. Not sure if this throws any light on the situation? Pun intended :)

  7. How did you know the reverse bulb had blown? I suspect the blown bulb has also blown the fuse and you need to locate the fuse. On mine there are lots of green wires going into the rear light clusters because the reverse lights were put in by a previous owner. The fuse is underneath by the gearbox (means getting underneath unfortunately). If your reverse lights are stock, then hopefully the fuse will be somewhere more sensible.

Unlikely but possible that the reverse lights + the indicators are two separate problems. Check those earths and twiddle those fuses though!

  8. Reverse lights are normally fed from the coil I believe so possibly a red herring. Im afraid its work your way through the wiring diagram logically (especially the fuse designations.) or trial and error or indeed following the circuits through with a multi-meter.
