  1. VW T2 Bay Window LHD US Import 2 Litre 1975/6, only 80,602 miles on clock (will be more as we are still using). Great bus. Much loved and commented on. Tax & MOT exempt but still has had MOT done yearly (2 and a bit months left on current).

    Roof gutters need some work.

    £10,400.

    Bus is located in Southsea

    SENSIBLE OFFERS CONSIDERED.
    Trying to be as honest as possible here. Photos in next comment box. Happy to answer any questions and provide more photos on request.

    Hi there, We are offering for a very, very reluctant sale our beloved bay window bus. We have owned Hermann since 2009 and have been the only owners since purchase and import from the US by Karmann Konnection in 09.

    Hermann is for sale as we have recently become home owners and need to spend money on updating the house. We just can’t give him the time and attention he deserves.

    Hermann has a strong Type 4, 2 Litre engine which was originally Fuel Injection but converted to dual carbs on import by Karmann Konnection. Will happily sit at 65mph on the motorway (will easily go faster but never found the point of stressing a 40 yr old+ engine). Hermann does like to pop out of 1st gear sometimes – we’ve coped with this for 10 years with no real issues, normally holding it when pulling away from a stop solves this and the rest of the gears are fine.

    The bus was imported in 2009 as rust free underneath and has been waxolyled several times. As such, the underside has never required any welding (Photos available of underside when purchased in 2009 before 1st waxoyl).

    Herman has a lovely original Westfalia Berlin weekender interior (still with ORIGINAL rock and roll bed Westfalia fabric and original built-in very effective coolbox), sink and table (we’ve removed the pump action tap and water bottles as who wants a 2nd hand water system – yuk! – easy to get hold of though). Table is an old exam desk from a local school. Plenty of storage and character.

    100a Leisure battery and Zig unit provides interior lights and power to the CD radio and 12V sockets. The bus also has a 240 electric hookup in the engine bay to power everything when on site (inc 2 x 13a sockets inside bus).

    Hermann is Tax and MOT exempt but we have been having the bus MOT’d yearly anyway as peace of mind. Most panels on the bus are original paint – we did have the front panel under windscreen area professionally restored and resprayed in 2009 as there was some surface rust, and a rear corner done. Some panels have had some paint when in the US. Consequently the bus is several different shades of green but we think this just adds to his quirky charm. Rear end looks a bit brown in some of the photos - it's not, it's just the reflection of our back gate.

    The main issue with Hermann is that the roof along the gutters needs work. This would suit an experienced welder wanting a project. Also a couple of areas in the usual places on the bodywork need sorting. Nothing too major on body though as bus is still incredibly solid. We haven’t hidden the number plates in the photos so you can check the MOT record history (only one advisory for a small area on the nearside inner sill near the cab step). Can provide more photos if necessary .

    The bus is insured under a classic policy agreed replacement value of £18,000 as it currently stands, so for a bit of work you will have bought a bargain to sell on and make a good profit if you want to, or a great bus to love and use like we have.

    At a glance details of various bits and bobs listed below. Regret that curtains and skull gear knob (we will reinstate the original VW knob) are not included in sale due to sentimental reasons. Will leave curtain rails and fixings in situ though. We do have front and side cab thermo mats that we will include with sale as well as decent quality breathable bus cover and various cables/bulbs etc.

    * Tax and MOT exempt but we still had it MOT’d yearly

    * Currently insured under agreed value policy for £18,000

    * Westfalia Berlin Weekender interior.

    * Vintage Speed Stainless steel exhaust

    * Front panel professionally restored and resprayed 2010

    * Uprated servo assisted front disc brakes

    * New European specification heat exchangers installed 2017 (i think, could be the year before - have receipt somewhere)

    * Improved visibility wing mirrors (US truck style) - You can actually see stuff!

    * Bus chassis all original and solid – never welded (we did have the cab floor pans professionally done).
    Skylight installed to replace ridiculous American Roof-scoop.

    * Bus interior resprayed, new headliner and door cards throughout (2010).

    * Improved front seating from Type 25 Caravelle. VERY comfortable, especially on long journeys

    * Electrics overhaul shortly after purchase (though handbrake light flashes on and off at times still – common)

    * Electric Windscreen washers (no more pumping furiously)

    * 240V electric hook-up

    * 12v dual relay leisure battery system and Zig unit.

    * additional interior lights

    * Aluminium side step.

    * CD player stereo radio and speakers with .mp3 input

    * Rear jail bars.

    * Bus was originally US import so had fuel injection system. Was professionally converted to Dual Carburettors before our ownership of it.

    * US spec additional side indicators and rear side lights

    * Headlight guard mesh fitted to both front lights.

    * Rear right corner panel professionally restored and resprayed.

    * Rear original bumper replaced with US California dry state import (in keeping with bus age and type - could do with a bit of paint to make it pristine but we like it scruffy).

    * Overall cool and individual looking - a real talking point. Not messed about with.

    We have spent many years driving and holidaying in this bus. It is much loved and we will be sad to see it go. Payment via BACS (bank transfer) or cash at a bank branch accepted. Bus will not be released until payment has cleared.

    SENSIBLE OFFERS CONSIDERED. Welcome to come and view - we're free most weekends.
    NO TIME WASTERS PLEASE

    Thanks for looking.
