Why do you want my dub history then? The past is a foreign country. Surely better to ask for my dub history now.

(You won't get it though. I don't kiss n tell)

  9. My dad had a white over red 1972 tin top Devon that he bought new. That's it really, when Anne decided she wanted a camper van it had to be a bay.

  10. I moved to Cornwall ,there was a vw camper garage at the end of our road ,kept passing and wanted one....

I was too young for a caravan and too old for a tent ,this seemed perfect ,classic van and trendy....

I recon if I still lived in west yorkshire ,I would not be on tlb now ,I would be driving a morris marina or summart...:hattip:

  11. Well we were considering attending a few events staying in TLB club areas. We are now quite worried.....

  14. My Mrs made me do it. I was (still am) into Harley Davidsons. She made me buy a shortened T25 but the brakes were so sharp, neither of us could safely drive it. Edd China's fault, him and his motorised sofa's who would cut the middle out of a T25 anyway? I'll tell you who, bloody Edd China that's who. After parking the thing in the garden for years a bloke from Brizzle had it and done it up real smart. Streamside garage I think. Then I bought a longer one from a bloke called Baxter in Udds. Good van but they rot. Had it 5 years though. Swapped it for a LT, bloody awful thing. used to whine at me all the time. Then my 1st bay, that was a state but I made a profit on it. Wish i'd never sold it. Doors were all rotten as was one rear corner. When I picked it up I got half way home up the A34, stopped in a lay by and it didn't start again. Dynamo had packed in so we had to bump start it backwards and put the brakes on before we hit the A34 again going the wrong way. Loved it to bits, that was a late van, swore like a trooper at myself when the lad that bought it drove away. Had nothing for a number of years then saw a cheap early on JK. It was cheap for a reason. The so called engineer that "restored" it thought he's restore the engine as well. Only thing was, he's never done one before and didn't line the dowels in the cases up properly so it ended up partially seizing one day after I'd parked it up. What a tool. Before it did that, found out one day pulling out of sainsbury's he's fixed the engine onto the carrier with bolts that were too short so the engine dropped. I almost crapped my pants. Did I say what a tool? Got it all fixed, engine helicoiled with longer screws put in and rebuilt. Still got this one now. I'm off for a cuppa. Yeah, bloody women.

Decided I wanted a camper and was after a Bay but after many weekends wasted looking at sheds I spotted a gun metal T25 with twin headlights, twin sunroofs and a 2.1 inj engine. Been better it was the same price as the sheds I had wasted time looking at but had no rust! After a slight strop when the garage man poked a hole in my alfasud sprint that I was considering part ex-ing I later decided I actually wanted the van and went back to buy it. (I was still angry about the hole tho! )
First slightly nervy trip Sheffield to Malvern a day later, all went fab tho.
There followed 2 T4 westies, one that we lived in for 6 months in Spain.
Then my first Bay, bought in Spain with lots of rust and different coloured panels. Had it done up but had to sell it as couldn't insure it in Spain. Spent two days working for a customer and got a non starter T25 as payment. Bought another T4 westie, came back to UK, bought The T25 back too. A neighbour had got it going in return for me doing plumbing at his house. T25 sails through UK mot:)
Sold T25 to pay fine for late tax return :(. Was stroppy until we bought a T2 Devon :).
Sold T4. Didn't like layout of Devon and the roof too heavy. Bought Landmark and sold Devon. Loved landmark but not best for camping in. Bought T4 Reimo didn't want to sell landmark so once again have two campers :)

Bought a 1500 beetle in 1991 at the age of 21 and spent about 4 years going to various VW events , can't remember many of them for some reason ;)
I then got fed up of welding it up and making do so took it off the road and 'restored' it and flogged it and bought a mk2 golf with heaters!!
Always hankered after a T2 but I've always had scooters and my lambretta and scooter rallies took up all my spare time and money..
Then a couple of years ago I realised that I was being very selfish spending most of my summer razzing round the country and Europe on scooter rallies and not spending time with my wife and young daughter , we then decided that now as the time to buy a camper and that was that , we bought one in March 2015 and we love it ( most of the time ) and I haven't been on my scooter since last October , I do miss the mates and craic on scooter rallies but I am starting to make new friends within the VW fraternity and absolutely love driving the Van...

Should have said - always been a VW fan , couple of Mk2 GTIs and a very quick Corrado ( would love another but nowhere to keep it) the wife has had a couple of Seat Ibizas ( lovely cars ) and I'm now in an A3 so never stray too far
