Leaky dipstick.

  1. Just drove to work this morning and noticed oil is getting past the top of my dipstick ever so slightly on my type 4 motor.

i can see what looks like a o-ring inside the lid of the dipstick, im assuming its as simple as replace the o-ring that could be causing the issue.

There should be a felt thing stuffed up there, but it's more of a dust seal than oil. Oil shouldn't be forced so far up the dipstick tube in the first place so an o-ring, even if it worked which I doubt, would be addressing a symptom and not the problem.

    Rings worn? Case breather plugged?

  4. I suspect the rings are fine, recently done a compression test and its within spec for a 1800.

Case breather is open and directed to one of the carbs.

I was putting it down to the hills i have to climb on the way to work.

Think i will clean of the residue before leaving work and see if it happens again, its all downhill mind.

Maybe you just scraped a drip of oil from the dipstick checking the oil.

  6. I think a number of the more mature TLB members suffer from the same problem.
