  1. Mornin peeps

Just a quickie, as my van has been standin a while ive notice one of the calipers has seized, the piston looks stuck tbh, i would like to buy a new one but 95 quid is a lot for me at the mo.

The otherside was replaced as it seized last year! So i have one new on the left!! Has anyone rebuilt these before, easy? Difficult? Worth doin?

    Thx in advance

  2. I've took the piston out of mine to check and replace the seals you need to split the calliper the get the pistons out I used an air line to pop them out then clean it all up and put new seals in and put the piston back .
The hard part was getting them back in square with out damage but can be done .
One of mine was sticking so I did this hope that helps
If you not comfortable with doing it then maybe send them of for rebuild ( refurbishment )

  3. Ow and I've nog yet tryed mine on the road .

You don't need to split the caliper. Pump out and deal with one piston at a time by leaving the brake line attached and clamping the other.

  5. Haynes reccomends a foot pump attached to brake line?

  7. Lol, well iam changing rubber hose at same time so could cut connector off the end of rubber hose and use my tapered adaptor on pump, push it into the end if rubber pipe n then clamp it with a jubilee clip possibly

  8. Best to pump it out with the pedal.

You may have trouble getting the right seal kits.

  9. make sure you clean [fine emery] the outer steel edge of the caliper ,it is usually this part that makes the pistons stick...

Pump the pedal to see which comes out first ,then clamp that one and get the other first...

it is a messy business ,taking one out cleaning ,then pushing it back in [if you cannot push it back in ,it is not square or it needs more cleaning do not force it or chances are it will stick again]then re bleeding to get the other out ,but it does ensure it is all clean brake fluid eventually... ;D

I will never buy a brake caliper... ;D

  10. Nice one , who does the best rebuild kit seen on at VWH for £18.95, quite steep for 4 pieces of rubber:(

  13. Think ill start saving for a new caliper:(

  14. just kampers do a kit for a few quid. done my calipers the other month.

the only thing is.. one of the pistons was hard to get back in and i did force it a little (probably a mistake)

and as the brakes wont be back on the road for ages i dont know if ive made them better or worse.

guess if i buggered it up ill have to do it again.

mine cost me £60-ish if i remember rightly.

    i had a seal kit,
new pad retention pins and clips etc,
new bleed nipples & dust caps
    paint

never done this before but managed to get this result, im happy with it.
    ....

^your dust covers have pinged off because they are for earlier calipers that have a grove for the sprung steel ring. This is what I meant when I said earlier two of the parts are useless...

  16. Oh bugger. What can i do about that? :(

And why the hell do jk advertise them as for the late bay calipers if theyre not?
