Yeah maybe, But the splines are different to a late late bay. mines registered 74 but built 72. When was yours built? I am guessing before may 73!
Built on 24th may 74 left factory 29 may 74 - destination Australia If only it was built 6 months earlier
Yep. I was certain they changed in 73. every day is a school day. the spline size is different on those two wheels. I think the guy selling it needs to be sure of the date's at that price. You have one on a 76 raz has one on a 74, I have one on my 72..
The guy selling this late wheel is under the same impression as me too... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vw-bay-wi...rn-push-1978-9-camper-westfalia-/161181540647
I've only ever noticed 1 van have the thicker armed wheel. They don't look as good as that one up there ^^
Ours are Aussie's and were CKD so when built using whatever parts available. I'm surprised yours is 75/6 with an early steering wheel though as you'd of thought they had used all those parts up. Oh well it is what it is.
A strange one to be sure. 2 / 2 on this thread: http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/bargainous-steering-wheel-cover.25791/page-2
Hi, the offered steering wheel definitively is one for a 1974-1979 late bay. Look at the VW part number. VW offered two different steering wheels - the standard one shown in my ad which looks like an prototype bay steering wheel and the padded steering wheel. Maybe the padded one was mounted into all export busses, in Germany you had the choice. Cheers Olaf
I tried to fit it in my prototype bay window, but it has the hub for 1974-up bays. Check for the VW part number. It proofs my initial details.
Olaf/DFL is right, the early style steering wheel with the thinner spoke things comes with 2 different spline sizes, one for <75 and one for 75>.. I know because my bus is a 75 and I kept buying the wrong steering wheel. Identical but the splines are thinner on the later wheel.
