Laid up and bored....

  1. Well,

I've gone and done it this time. My bad back from 10 years ago has made a unwelcome reappearance and I'm hobbling around like the hunchback of Notredame.

Not good being a self-employed (self-unemployed?!) plasterer type. Can't even fettle the van.

Still at least the sun is shining!

Is it too early to start on that bottle of Pinot Noir?

same here, tweaked my back 8 or 9 weeks ago, backs a bit better the last week or so but got muscle spazms in my leg and lower back which is more painful than my back, self employed too and im getting poor, very poor :(

  4. Bad news - feeling for you.

I'm going to try the osteopath tomorrow as i have heard good things about them - really need to get back to work....

What drugs have they given you?

saw osteopath, but I have a torn muscle or ligament and the osteopath doesn't fix that stuff, they're more slipped discs popped ribs etc, they gave me some codeine phosphate30mg/paracetamol 500mg for the pain and naproxen for the inflammation, the codeine didn't make any odd tot he pain in my back but helps the pain in my legs now, ibuprofen seem sot relieve the swelling better than the naproxen. problem is it catches me off guard, especially when im asleep, roll over and scream the house down, the mrs doesn't even flinch or say there there.
im off to see the physio tomorrow but chances are its gonna be lots of stretching to get my mobility back again, hopefully I get a nice lady and a massage to ease my discomfort. it is getting a bit boring now.

  6. Ah - I'm in the slipped disc group so different injury to yours.

I remember from last time how wearing it got, and really don't want to go there again.

Good luck tomorrow and fingers crossed that you get your nice lady massage, would it be inappropriate to ask for extras or is it not that sort of massgae?

  7. not one to promote supermarkets or anything but, asda sell a massage & bath oil. made by ayuuri natural. it has ginger, black pepper and rosemary. this should help to ease the pain and increase your mobility. get a partner/ wife to give you a nice massage after your bath. it is £5.88. sounds exspensive but what price do you put on your well being. hope this helps all you sufferers out there. ( works for my hubby) :)

  8. Cheers - I will my g/f that i was prescribed massages and it is her duty.

Did my back in breaking me leg when I was 11 and has never been right but did go see a woman who slapped and punch me about in the name medicalness which made it a bit better and was fun.

But the best thing I've found for making it better was giving up fulltime working.

Have you got a heat lamp that can help.

  10. I had a slipped disc many years back and had a discectamy in 2010.

Beware - as I went to the Dr who did the usual route of sending me to physio for backpain. The physio I did actually made my back worse and did long term damage.

I kept going back to the Drs saying that there was def something wrong with me and ended up refusing to leave until they booked me in to see a specialist - I ended up having a MRI and they then realised how bad my back was.

I lived on narproxen and meloxican for 3 years as my back was in a constant state of spasm. Ended up having the operation and then 6 weeks flat on my back ...

Its a bit better now - but as I say - the damage was made worse by the length of time untreated and bad physio at the start.
Also - I nearly killed off the nerves in my leg because the slipped disc was pushing against them and made me numb and unable to walk......

The worst thing to do with a bad back is rest - you need to keep moving, if you cant - go to a dr - get drugs and push to be seen by a specialist. Physio and massage is only worthwhile once you know the ACTUAL problem.

I broke my leg when I was 6, was laid up in traction and had most of my nose and eyelids remade and stitched up, I would say my back issues almost certainly stem from it, I have been much better whilst off work ( well the bit that used to constantly hurt now doesn't) all the other bits hurt now ! . change of lifestyle and work type are usually the answer, im sure plastering isn't a back friendly profession.

  12. I've just started acupuncture it seems to work it took 3 years to get the doc to send me to the pain clinic lets try this and that grrrrrrr

Be careful with codeine they get you bunged up and can be addictive for pain i found Tramadol worked better they don't stop the pain you just don't care about it and are more addictive than codeine but have less side affects.

    Whs^^^

I had a bendy spine which the slap and tickle straighten out a bit and improved it.

My biggest problem seems to be that the world is built for shorter people so when I was working any benches were just that bit low to be comfortable for my back

im fully fluid with my passings :) . im not addicted, I could stop tomorrow if I wanted to :) , I have only been taking them when the pain is really bad otherwise I spend a lot of time stretching and having hot baths.

  16. I love Codine and Tramadol ... :)

The other thing I now use is a TENS machine ... the same one MrsMarowak used for giving birth. When I use it for 30 mins each evening it definitely numbs the daily pain - a bit.

  17. Nooooo. I get nightmares on them but pethedine is my best friend now at times of pain. When a side effect is "feelings of euphoria" I'm happy with that! :D
