Blimey, it is that one @dubsurftones I’d call anyone you know on the East coast of the US and tell them to get their wet suits on…
@Mr Apollo, hi I worked at the Plant Protection factory near Yalding station for a number of years. Last time I drove past, there were new houses on the station side, but the main site looked mainly cleared and derelict, I understand the contaminated land is the problem. Back in 1968 when I was working there, a big flood in September caused a lot of damage in the area and the site was under 6 feet of water and flowing fast which took dozens of steel drums down river with it. For weeks after the water went down we were recovering drums left high and dry out in farmers' fields. The clean up for weeks did give us all lots of overtime and it was good fun. The flood caused the Whitbread Hop Farm at Beltring to close for ever as a hop farm. The Yalding boat yard nearby also made good money providing boats and staff to aid the recovery down as far as Teston and East Farleigh.
You can’t believe a word he says. Look at the cock up he made of Jurassic Park. Nearly got his niece and nephew eaten by a T. rex.
I was there in the early 90s when the 'Karate WG' plant was opened, and still work for ICI/Zeneca/AstraZeneca/Syngenta, in Switzerland now.
I joined at Jealotts Hill in a research lab and transferred to Yalding doing more lab work and later had a career change and joined Accounts Department as a programmer on the IBM 360 series computer and 2 years later moved to management services at Fernhurst working as a programmer on the Burroughs B3500. Some years later had a company move to ICI New Zealand. I am well into pension age now and pleased to receive the Syngenta pension. PS. I have no idea what the Karate WG plant was
I remember back in the 60s when they had to evacuate the islanders off Tristan da Cunha when the volcano there exploded. I think they went back a few years later after living in Scotland.
