73 2l auto, started to knock from the rear N/s when under pressure climbing a very steep hill, but it disappears the moment you come off the throttle, cos this is the only time it does it, it's hard to tell where it is coming from, it didn't rise and fall with the revs, sounds like a metronome set at about 1 second and is quite loud, anyone any ideas?
I would get that checked out mate - knocking under pressure sounds expensive. Whats the end float like on the engine? With engine off - grab the pullywheel at the back, push and pull it - is there any significant slack ?
yes well it could be gearbox/drive related ? get a small Victorian child to sit in the wheel well whilst you drive up hills and get them to report back
the 2 ltr does suffer from big end bearing failure which shows it self as a knock , but without hearing it its hard to tell , not sure how the auto works but can you get it to labour the engine a bit on the flat . End float is very difficult to measure on a installed type 4 engine but how many miles /when was it last rebuilt . Hope its something simple , I had an engine knock once and after a lot of head scratching it was found the wrong oil filter was fitted and it was this knocking
The plot thickens, away from the coast and them there steep hills, but the darn thing is doing it after hard braking just before it comes to a standstill????
And now when I take a slow, tight right hand bend, the N/S CV joint is now my main aguido unless anyone can tell me any different???
