Knob inserts

  1. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to get the inserts for the light switch knob on the dash. Strangely they are available for the hazard warning knob! I also need one for the fan switch. Maybe I need to start looking round the breakers.

  2. Keep an eye out at some of the shows as there are usually a few to choose from in the auto jumble.

  3. From the title I was expecting something completely different! ;)

  7. Getting a second hand light switch might be the best option. The fan switch (if it's a real one) might be difficult to get hold of, as the fresh air fans weren't common in Euro busses. The Aussies had more of them. I've never been able to find a real switch for my fans.

  8. Yeah it is an Aussie import, and the fan is real and works. Though I don't use it as it's a bit noisy. Suppose I could try an Aussie site, but they might not like giving away their knobs

  9. I had an original fan switch with no insert, so i had a look around the bathroom to find a suitable size black bottle top. (perfumes, lotions, etc.) Most will have a dimple in the middle from where the plastic was injected, but this can be sanded off and polished back to shine, just as you would if it was metal. After i made the insert a perfect fit, i just put a sticker of the fan logo on it.

I made one for my ipod volume control too.

  10. Even the Aussies seem to have a shortage of knobs ;). My fans came from Oz, and the knob was impossible to find.

They do turn up in ads on theSamba, from time to time.

  11. I have posted a wanted on the Kombi Club forum:)

  12. As an alternative, Vehicle Wiring Products sell a nice, chunky (German) three-position rotary switch, which doesn't look out of place. It's what I used on mine.
