Because I don't have to pay for threads I won't hijack @paradox 's thread Would you let your kids do what you have done in the past as a child or a teenager. I used to live across the road from loads of fields and farms this is where I spent most of the summer and a lot if winter out before 9 back at 6ish tree houses underground dens camping out with no tent? Making fires to cook eggs on that you had just borrowed from the farm fried on a slate my dad would whistle at the door then I would come in. WHAT NO PHONE!!!!!!! When was the last time you saw a rope swing? Srumping Jumping your bike over two bricks and a plank. Sledging (bread tray) Building sites The list would go on and on kids have no life these days.
I used to play in a glen with rope n stuff tied to trees , n in a corn barn with rats and corn vats, n fish in fenced off gavel pits where if you fell in you wouldnt get out very easy , like most we are still here , i think kids miss out on alot these days too, i did used to take mine up on the hills and make bows and arrows and my son used to play at the derelict Hellingly Hospital n go out on his own but i think i was probably more protective than my parents , who did care about me , but i got run over n nearly killed age 5 , nobodys fault i looked and car/ van hit my head , but that has made me over cautious with both children and adults near roads now. Roads are a hell of a lot more dangerous now too. I think the phone thing has gone to far now and 400odd quid iphones are now putting children at risk too. This world is a whole lot different place than it was 50 years ago. That doesnt mean their wernt weirdo's n stuff but drugs greed and money is more of a problem i fear. Betties son is a senior school head teacher and he says its a nightmare these days with rules and hardly any form effective of disipline with some . Even he dreads being seen out by certain kids !!!
