khyam awnings without the quick up system?

  1. does anyone have a kyham without the quick up system? how much of a pain in the bum are they (if any at all)?

i've never had a problem with tents etc as they tend to be quite logical, but have noticed that the kyham driveaway doesn't have the QE system and are considerably cheaper.

surely, they can't be any more difficult that a 1970's canvas one?

  2. I don't know the answer but if nobody else does either, have a word with the peeps at Lightning Leisure as they will know and they may well have some good offers on if they stock the model you're looking for (tell 'em Dogs N Dubs sent you).

  4. oops... before finding out the answer to my query, i have just bought a secondhand driveaway.
bugger, the bag's really heavy (poss not as heavy as my 70's awning). but it comes with carpet and heavy duty groundsheet too.

just need my camper paint sorting so i can put it back together and use it :(

  5. Don't try and put it up in relation to the van - put it up then drive the van to it.

It isn't the easiest to do single-handed either, I've developed a system that works for me, but its taken 2 yrs :-[ and involved lots of lapses into vernacular originally :-X

Bloody great awning tho, the space is massive, especially if you have no need to put the inner up. Do you know which year model you've bought? There were a couple of tweaks on the Mk2 (2010 I think)

  7. Jeez, you're gonna be rattling around in that on your own!

It's the same model as mine (Mk1), couple of minor issues but not a problem. I'd test it soon tho, poles splitting is common, save the feedback until after...
