I started what i though would be a simpe job of replacing the rotten exhaust on my caravelle only to be thwarted by the exhaust nuts on the heads. Out of the 4 i needed to undo one is an M8 bolt with an 11mm head which came out easily, one is a blob of rust (might be a nut or might be a bolt head, who knows), one is a bolt with a rotten and chewed up head and one is still possibly a stud with a nut (though its now less than 10mm across instead of 13). I also undid the silencer and 350 degrees of the pipe was not attached anymore. No wonder the bugger sounded like a V8. 1/2 the exhaust ports had nothing attached to them, Got my westy out of the garage and drove the caravelle in sounding like a top fuel dragster complete with flames from the exhaust ports.
Bolt head? Stud with remains of a nut still attached? Possibly another bolt instead of a stud and nut? Atleast until the new parts arrive and i gain the enthusiasm to attack the bolts/nuts again i get to drive my westy around.
