Just kampers wide steels

  1. I’m mostly quite happy with how my van sits, but it could do with just a hint more stance to it.
I’m at standard ride height with stock rims and 185 section whitewalls.
They look pretty fat on the 5.5 rims, but I do fancy just a might more width...
does any one have the JK wide steels fitted? Any piccies? They say they may take mods to fit? But people run 8’s on the back without issues?

The only thing that came up and it was a surprise to me was that with the steering turned to left or right, a wider profile tyre left only 10mm in between the treads of a tyre with part worn treads and a mudflap bracket in the front wheel arch.

Aren't the front ones fitted behind the outrigger?

Not if they are installed to protect the outrigger as well, hung inside the arch just forward of the protruding seam
If my mudflaps were installed further back, it would only gain another 10mm or so as you would hit that seam instead.
Which given the edges have rubbed off my tyres at the front means new tyres would have a small gap that might be a rub depending on where that seam has ended up.

  5. So if I understand correctly then they basically just bolt up? Got any piccies?

  6. No they don’t just bolt on. I needed longer studs and 20mm spacers on the front to clear the calipers.
