Just Kampers Open Day this weekend - anyone going?

  1. Or is everyone going to the Bristol Volksfest instead?

I'm going tonight and tomorrow as it's just down the road from me and I have other plans tomorrow evening - it would be great to say hi to anyone from here who's there :) (as opposed to kicking myself afterwards for not knowing I was camped next to X,Y or Z, because I didn't ask ;) )

  2. what happens at a JK open day

  3. From their web site (http://www.justkampers.com/news/JK-summer-open-day-2013/): (Sorry I didn't copy and paste before; I'm not sure how much like advertising for a specific company we are allowed to do - I'm not affiliated with JK, but I know some forums are very advertising-sensitive, this is all in aid of Great Ormond Street though, so not solely for corporate benefit :) )

    JK's Summer Open Day

Our Summer Open Day is annual event which gets bigger each year, and we always have great feedback from customers old and new letting us know what a great time they had.
This year's event is taking place on Saturday June 8th from 10AM to 4PM at JK HQ in Odiham, Hampshire.
You can Click Here to get directions, and even download a map!

We've got a huge range of companies coming in who sell, hire or convert VW Campers, so whatever you're interested in, there's plenty to take a look at here at the Just Kampers Open Day.
Just Kampers Insurance will be here too, giving you highly competitive quotes on tailored VW insurance.
The guys from the Farnborough VW Centre will be running health checks on your Volkswagen for FREE from our on-site JK Workshop.

And, of course, we'll have another fantastic Prize Draw to give you the chance to win a whole heap of goodies!
    Stalls and Shops:
This year we've added to the great selection of local independant stores and stalls, giving you even more to browse through while you're here, from woodcrafts, cupcakes and even clothing from Weird Fish!
There'll also be a display of some of the Domestic products we supply, as well as some of their team who can explain exactly what they can do to make your van a home.
We'll be joined by TH Performance, who did the work on our T5 when it needed a little performance boost, so make sure you check out their work if you're thinking of improving the performance of your T4 or T5!
Martin Dorey, celebrity cook and camper fanatic, will be with us again, doing cooking demos from his incredibly popular series of cooking books and TV series.
The guys from VolksWorld, Camper & Bus and VWt magazines will be with us too, offering magazine subscriptions and their ever popular goodie bags!
We'll also have Dynamat here, who'll be selling their range exclusively at Just Kampers.
Cutout-n-keep will also be joining us, letting you take a look at, and buy, their fantastic scale models of some of the most famous 'dubs out there.

    Food & Drink:
This year we're hoping to raise over £5,000 for our chosen charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital, so we'll be asking for a £1 donation at our JK BBQ, which will get you a burger or hotdog and a can of soft drink, as well as a warm fuzzy feeling from helping the world renowned childrens hospital!
As well as our traditional BBQ, you'll be able to get your hands on pizza, tea, coffee, sweets, cakes and even locally made chutney as we're joined by a whole range of local, independent companies selling delicious food and drinks.
    Kids Activities:
It's always great to see kids out enjoying themselves at our Summer Open Day, so we'll be having the same great range of activities for kids, including a chair-o-plane and inflatable slide, face painting, colour competitions and more!

  9. Well it was a totally unplanned visit, we had dropped the kids with granny & travelled down from Leicester to Bicester Friday night, lovely meal out and stopped over at a Premier Inn then went to the designer retail park place this morning.

It was Mrs Robo's birthday Thursday hence the shopping trip, although by lunch time we had done all the shops at Bicester & whilst chatting over a coffee I happened to mention the JK open day & the 10% off everything :)

So we continued south & arrived about 2:30pm, we wanted to see first hand JK's new pop up awning and received a demo of how it worked etc. as I walked passed the volksworld stand I spotted Martin having a chat but before we could say hi he had gone, we wondered a bit & spotted him doing his cooking bit & it was very busy so didn't stick around to watch so we probably stood near you @surfgirl1

To be fair tho by the time we had grabbed what we wanted, had a can of pop we had a wonder into the camping field & then headed back to the car, by which time Martin had finished his cooking @ was busy tidying up so we went and said hi and had a chat.

We then had to go as we had a 3 hour drive home and had to pick the kids up at 7pm.

It wasn't at all what I was expecting as I hadn't looked at the site or anything so just expected some campers & a few JK bods selling stuff so it was quite a pleasant surprise just wish we had more time to find any TLB folk and say hi, there must of been more than just you and Martin from the forum there!

    Did you camp @surfgirl1 ?

  10. Yep, I camped last night (Friday) but had to come tonight home for a dinner party that had been arranged yonks ago at mine (d'oh! it's rather hard to not turn up to your own dinner!).

I was sitting to the right of Martin on the back row with a beige dog who alternately slept and tried to cadge portions of Martin's cooking as it was passed round when ready. I had to leave almost as soon as he'd finished as apparently people coming to dinner not only expect the sole host to be in, but also that they provide food! ;) After walking the dog back to our pitch and packing up my camper followed by a diversion via the toilet on the way out I left about 16:15 in the end I reckon.

Bicester to Odiham is quite a trek - I'm well-impressed Mrs Robo is up for tacking that on the end of her birthday shopping trip! :)

There were rumours circulating that next year in order to raise yet more money for charity they are going to open it up as a festival and get bands in too. Could be fun :)

  11. We went but it wasn't the best I have to say, went to see the new pop up awning but not that taken:-(
