My wife has just had the letter today calling her to do jury service in March next year exactly the week we've got a holiday in Spain booked and paid for!
I know you can defer it once with this kind of excuse, anyone know how quick they are to give you another date or do you tend to go back in the system I definately?
We're supposed to be going to America next September and think it will be just typical if she refuses March that she'll be given some date in September buggering those plans up!
    Anyone had any experience?

  4. Don't get it. My mate has been called a couple of times and I've not had anything. Not that I'm keen to do it.

Could I still be called and do they pay travel costs?

You is a bad man and they know it.

  7. My wife got called a few years ago when she was working as a supply teacher - didn't want to have to do it as it would have meant losing out on earnings (supply teacher - no work = no pay) so she deferred it, and specified dates she would be available (easter holidays) and so they called her during the 2 weeks she had specified.

Take a good book, or a laptop with a mobile internet dongle - she will be sat around most of the time with nothing to do!

  8. That's the weird thing. He has previous for drugs (just a caution). I also have a caution (14 years ago) for something a lot less serious than drugs. I ain't bad jus stoopid. :)

  12. I've just done it. It's a very out dated system! Could believe how many folk are called in for jury service. Don't think if u defer it u will have any idea if or when u could be asked again.

It's a shame you can't pick n choose your trials, you could specify you wanted someone famous as defendent cos it would be something to tell the grandkids :thumbsup:

  15. I got off at least 5 years ago on child care grounds. Haven't ever been recalled

  16. They've tightened up on deferrals since then. Too many people were managing to get out of jury service, so now deferral is only temporary, and you will end up having to do it, it's just a case of when.....

  20. Was called up three years ago, I wrote a plea letter requesting exceptional due to being self employed, I still had to attend. After three days of being called, stood down, being called, stood down I was released from duty with the court official saying I had completed my duties. Expenses paid all happy.
