I guess a belt and braces approach is to make sure you use good quality fuel hose and proper hose clips, but also have the fire system. We did, never had a fire but for extra peace of mind…..

We didn’t have the JK one. It was a Firetec or similar.

I fitted one of those JK ones at Techenders and it let out some gas when I was manipulating it to fit. It’s in place but I don’t think I can trust it. Not very impressed to be honest.

I think you really only want to fit a pressurised tube type if it has a pressure switch so you know immediately when it went off or just leaked away..
The switch can also be coupled to a fuel cutoff solenoid so if there is a fire you stop feeding it petrol immediately..

my Halon extinguisher on my boat rotted away so when I went to hand it in as containing banned CFCs it was empty..

A 1kg or 2kg dry powder hand held extinguisher used following training will make an amazing mess and put out the fire too.

A gas type extinguisher in the engine bay still needs a hand held extinguisher for when the burning petrol is also in a puddle under the bus..

They always seam to demonstrate them on a stoped engine I’ve wondered what would happen with the engine running would the fan just suck it all straight out

I think the way it's meant to work is the hose melts and bursts over the hot spot of the fire and sprays liquid directly on it. If it's not enough then having a go with a second 1kg powder extinguisher is an option I would like to have.
My approach is a solenoid fuel shutoff valve outside the engine bay, stainless braided motorsport hose which is very fire resistant (and up to 100% ethanol resistant) and £27 a metre and a 1kg powder extinguisher.
