Its a Cracker!!

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Stan, Jan 13, 2014.

  1. My van spat a spark plug out last night. After initially thinking it needs a thread insert I spied a crack from the photo I took?

Please just confirm I am right? There is a hairline crack leading from the inside hole along the thread and out isn't there (before I take the engine out and start ordering new parts!) (You may need to zoom in)

    Thanks

  2. Yes, I see it. I'm no expert though...
    New cyl head???

  3. Yep that doesn't look too good. Check your other plugs too. I had a similar issue years ago as a result of a loose plug. The hot gases escape until it can't hold on any more. You can see the sooted line where yours has been blowing

    Bummer
    :)

  5. Its cracked and the best approach is to get a new head
It has been known for people to chemical metal the plug in place untill they can afford a new head

  6. Thanks for the replies folks.
I dont have a lot of time these days since we moved house recently so I will just put forward my plan for a top end overhaul now and get it out of the way. The amount of work to remove and strip engine might as well get its major service done.
Its a good engine and served me well so deserves a decent fix!
    Thanks again
